Looking for a new vehicle and the Trailhawk caught my eye, so I went and test drove one. Who was the genius that thought auto start stop was a good idea? Very irritating and I see it as possibly dangerous. Friend of mine had one of those boxy looking Mercedes 4x4's that had that and he got rid of it within 2 months. He swears it damn near got him killed in Dallas. When time matters I don't want to have to wait on the engine to start. He was stopped at an intersection and seen a feller behind him that obviously wasn't going to stop so he hit the gas to get out of his way. He got hit before his vehicle could start and move.

Yeah, my wife has a TH and the first thing I do when I drive is to disengage. I dislike the feature immensely.

Other than that, it has been a pretty good vehicle as we approach 50K and 3 years. Will say, known issue, but so far no recall, but on occasion all of the lights on the shifter as well as check engine light will illuminate. I believe there is a transmission sensor going out and we haven't addressed yet because it doesn't seem to impact driving and they all reset once the engine is turned off.

On the Wranglers, it's usually a slightly loose battery terminal that causes the same thing.

I have a good friend that had the regular cherokee a couple years ago, tons of transmission issues under 2000 miles and the dealership eventually just took the car back.

I am not a fan of any fiat products. The best jeep is a jeep wrangler of any year that has had the complete drive train completely replaced by a chevy drive train.

I imagine emissions standards are to blame. You can only make an ICE so efficient while also being powerful enough to handle the vehicle’s needs. Turning the car off stops idle emissions.

I would hate it for sure.

We rented a Jeep Wrangler on our trip to CO Springs during thanksgiving. The night we flew in they got hit with a blizzard, lots and lots of snow and temps down in the single digits. That Wrangler had that auto shutoff thing. Everytime we'd stop it would turn the engine off, the air would continue to blow, but it was blowing cold air instead of heat. Took me a couple red lights to figure out why everytime we'd stop it would get really cold in the jeep lol. Turned that stuff off everytime I got in from then on. Think most new vehicles come with it, and I'm not a fan. My wifes car and my truck and car do not have that feature, but when we get a new one I'm sure we'll have to just deal with it.

It's a requirement on all new cars now. Also the dealer can't turn it off. However there are workarounds to disable it on most vehicles. A common one that works on most Chrysler products is a Tazer mini which unlocks all the hidden feature settings and adds a few more of its own.

On the past few rentals I had had that crap on it, it's always and easy to find button. Plus after you have been stopped for so long the engine kicks back on anyway. So I am not sure exactly how much we are saving.

It isn't a feature I care for at all. That said all the ones I have driven literally start before you get your foot on the gas. Perhaps it was just his day to be rear ended. If I ever own a vehicle with this feature it will be disabled just because I don't want it stopping and starting every time I do.

I have this on my 2018 F-150. Took a little getting used to but hasn't really been a problem. I just watch the lights and gently release the brake and the engine restarts. Bigger problem in the summer when the AC shuts off! You can disable it easily if you chose.

sounds like a pain. I dont think I could do it. A person should be focused on the road and not getting his car moving. Sounds like driving a old car thats dies when you pull to the light. You there peddling and turning off accessories to keep that muther on.

That was why I was asking.I have a '19 Ram that doesn't have it.

I have a car lot and we are typically pretty up to date on stuff and I have never heard about it being required. Not to say it won't be in the near future, they mandate crap all the time, just was curious where I could read about it.

Wife has a Cherokee Limited that has it. I've driven it several times and it's not a problem with either of us.

Only time I dislike the start stop feature is sitting in traffic. Other than that it’s awesome.

U save about 3% a year, hence $75 on 25,000 miles
By the time you saved that money, 3-4 years later, you will need another battery.
A total waste and a pita

I don't think it has anything to do with saving money.....

Not burning gas while idling. If it's 65 and sunny, engine can be shut off for 5-10 minutes. Great when sitting in a Whataburger line.

I don't know about y'all but I don't want that motor shutting off unless I turn it off. The fact that it even has the ability to shut itself off bothers me, it can malfunction and I suspect it can be shut down remotely.
