Has anyone used Hornady 135 grain FTX's?

I haven't tried it, but looks like it might be a decent option. Will try to get some in and play with them.

I called Hornady and they gave me a .995" OAL for the 135 FTX. While they didn't mention it, I have heard others state that it was designed specifically for the .300 Blackout. I don't know if there's truth to that but if the shape of the bullet keeps it well enough out of the lands it should give ample room for powder. I'll get some next time I order something.

I haven't posted in a while but my dad and I both managed to harvest bucks this last season with the .300 Ham'r I built him. Unfortunately we've had to cancel our hog hunting plans this year but I'm hoping to go do some coyote hunting in the near future. I've got some 125 TNT'S waiting to be loaded for that.

For those who are still keeping up with this thread. I had a chance to shoot my 11.3" barrel with the LabRadar….2272fps average. Considering my 16" barrel is 2450fps, I was very pleased with these results.

Do I understand, you did a barrel change to the 300 HAM'R in 16"?

Two different rifles, two different barrel lengths.

Barrel change isn't a big deal....need the correct crows foot wrench, torque wrench, anti-seize, Loctite if you want to bed the barrel and the upper vice (mine is no-mar brand and was pretty cheap).

So I have a little hamr and a big hamr...the pigs/deer haven't cooperated but for handiness, weight and size the 11.3 is fast becoming my favorite rifle.

Yes, it's pretty consistent a 1" gun.

As someone with the 11.3" barrel, I'm VERY interested in velocity loss (and overall measurements) out of the short barrel. Which cartridge load was this?

I can't wait to see a cartridge developed and released specifically for the 11.3" barrel. And I would love to see it optimized for as much velocity as possible.

Sorry, should've included that in the original post. 28.2 CFEBLK and 130 flat nosed HotCor...one of Bill's favorite. I've tried to tweak it a bit but up to this point I've not found anything better...I'm not done tinkering but I'm getting close to calling it good.

The more I think about it, I’ll sell you my 16” barrel and let you shoot it first to decide if you want it. I will then pull my barrel and let you use my stuff to install it on your upper. It’s the LE contour, I’ll take $185. It’s got less than 150 rounds on it. Let me know if that interests ya.

Theres been a lot of discussion of the heavier class of bullets for medium size game+.. but I'm curious if anyone has been using there Ham'rs for hunting coyotes etc.? Especially which rounds you chose and why

so far, none of the 300 ham'r rounds are good for a coyote, especially if you sell the pelts. Too much damage to the pelts.

Im sure you're right.. the round was designed for medium size game such as hogs/deer it's easy to see what'll happen to smaller game. I've just heard of alot of guys using 308's for their coyote hunting and since the Hamr is similar to the 308 its only obvious to make that leap but since I dont sell the pelts that doesnt matter much for me. For now, around my part of of NC coyotes are more of a nuisance than hogs so I figured it'd be nice to have one gun for both

The only similarity it has to a 308 is the shoot the same diameter bullet.

I’d say if you got some 110 Vmax or 125 TNT’s its would be a great varmint round.

Are you just wanting to kill coyotes or hunt them for the pelts?

If you just want to kill them the Hornady 110gr SP, Speer 125gr TNT or Speer 130gr HP are all excellent choices. If your after minimal pelt damage the Speer 150gr HAM'R BONDED should work well.

165yd shot resting over my guides shoulder, new Speer 135gr HAM'R BONDED, DRT

PERFECT bullet performance, broadside shoulder shot fully expanded bullet was just under the skin of the off shoulder.

The Hamr is practically a 308 short. No it doesnt reach the same velocities or shot as heavy a bullet but its closer than most realize. Both seem like good rounds to choose from.. the 125's being a higher bc may squeeze some extra range out of it.
