I've got my 18" build almost done and I'm wondering if anyone has run a rifle length buffer system on their Ham'r? I'll be using a non adjustable gas block.
God bless.

Not only the exit blood fountains, but the post-hit acrobatics are pretty incredible as well! I've collected about a dozen piggies with my Ham'r, but they have just dropped like a ton of rocks (or pork) and I've not seen any splashes or front rolls. I be lovin' my Ham'r. The hogs and deer, not so much.

I've been using an old Remington R-15 that used to house a 24" heavy barrel in .223. It was a rifle length system. The buffer is still rifle length but I'm using the intermediate gas tube for the 18" hamr barrel. It's been working flawlessly. Maybe even a bit overgassed, but never fails to function. Here's my rig:

Successful deer hunt this am on a buck I've been after since I first saw him mid-November. Due to terrain I had to make a longer shot than I prefer, rangefinder showed 262yds after the kill. But with a little skill and some luck it worked out fine. Hit him in the spine and dropped him, but had to put a "finisher" in him though. Speer 150gr BTSP at a MV of 2290fps

Speer 150gr Bonded with Nickel Cases ammo is live on Wilson Combat!!!
Bill, have you done any non-scientific chrono with bullet drop at known range testing to determine if the BC of this bullet is really .503??? Not yet, that's the # Speer gave us and I think it's VERY optimistic, I think upper 300s is more realistic Using my Labradar and the JBM calculator I'm getting a BC of .334

DJones- I cannot imagine that many wild pigs WC- Is that buck now a 3 point with the front tangs/horns broke off? So the speer 150gr bonded at .300 BC is really a good 150-200yd white tail deer round? That would still fit my needs for this weapon even though the 130gr would be sufficient from the previous posts. I still am not fond of the gold dots just yet for hunting.

It's debatable whether it's a 8 or 10 point, two of the points are under developed, not broken I wouldn't choose the 150gr Bonded for deer, it's too tough for whitetail. I like the Speer 130gr HAM'R HOT-CORE, 135gr HAM'R Bonded (new bullet I just finished testing),150gr Speer BTSP and Hornady 150gr SST (.300 Savage version) for deer. I'm really liking this new 135gr HAM'R BONDED, it may end up being my "all around" bullet choice. I did a bunch of accuracy and terminal performance testing last Friday and accuracy is VERY good averaging well under 1" out of 4 uppers. I shot several through hog cadavers and into water for recovery from 100yds, see photos.

I swear the 300 HAM'R must have the record for the amount of suitable bullets in an AR platform.

"Are the new Speeer135gr HAM'R Bonded bullets available for us reloaders?" They will be I just finished testing them over the weekend and we just got the order # from Speer yesterday, so we haven't even cut the PO yet. I'd guess availability in mid-march. I did a little "real world" testing with them yesterday and last night.......3 were DRT, 1 was a 100yds running shot in the dark and went 50yds with a mid-section hit, gotta learn to lead them more!!!

I'm guessing a MAX load is going to be around 2450fps from a 18", I sent loads to Sig yesterday for pressure testing to find out. In my guns 2430fps seems to be the "sweat" spot for accuracy.

Thanks for the info on the availability of the new 135's! Will you be announcing them on your web site and/or on this Forum as well? Nice work on the piggies! You need to teach them to fall in dry areas instead of puddles so you don't have to wade through the muck to retrieve them! :-)

The Speer 135gr HAM'R BONDED strikes again! 241yd shot, bullet entered the shoulder and exited mid ribs, deer ran 50yds with a good blood trail. So far I'm extremely impressed with the overall performance of this bullet.

Just 17", but we aged him at 6.5yrs, his severely swayed back is what got him shot.

Bill,
Those 135 gr bonded bullets look to have good expansion. Any idea what the minimum expansion velocity is for that round?
Thanks,
Bryan

Thanks,
Bryan 2430fps muzzle velocity, bullets shot through a 150# hog and recovered in water behind the hog. Average retained weight from 100yds was 125gr and 130gr from 200yds.
