SIG entry looks decent but I don't think 80K pressure is a good idea. The small increase in velocity is not worth the potential wear it will cause. Be better to make the case brass and load it down to 55-60K pressure.

I have my doubts about the other entries with their polymer cases. Greta would not approve. "How dare you?!".

The Geneva convention is only binding to countries that signed it when fighting countries that signed it. An argument can be made that any country that signed it is bound to it no matter who they are fighting but that is why Jag officers were required for the decision to use m118lr ammunition as the hollow point could be judged the equivalent of a dum-dum bullet. That's just the U.S. covering its collective butt.

That will be too much recoil for the average soldier to endure.

For heavens sake. We fought and won World War Two with the 30-06.

They must have been a lot tougher back then.

Smaller and tougher.

I’d say that’s fairly obvious.

Overall male ruggedness may have been more common. It was also a time when it was not considered politically incorrect to laugh at a man who was to frail to master the recoil of the 30-06 and look down upon him as a wimp.

They will learn to use it.

They may bitch more but they still carry rucksacks and jump out of planes.

I carried 1,000 rds 7.62 link plus everything i needed to last a month in 2017. That's 96 pounds just in ammo. I was a weapons squad leader in 82d and my dudes (millenials that got on my last damn nerve) carried their machine gun, tripod, and 800-1000 rds apiece. Still had M4's too. We only had 2 man gun teams.

I am not gonna take anything away from our greatest generatiom, who saved the world from fascism. But you are selling our young soldiers short.

My XXL plate carrier without mags was almost 30 pounds. These kids carry so much [censored] everywhere they go. If you seen it or did it for yourself just one time you'd be impressed.

Recoil at/near a .270 in a gas operated rifle is not gonna kick their asses.

The case had no neck. At least not externally. I wonder how runout is minimized with this new case? Will be interesting to learn more. I surely hope our brave GI’s are presented with a superior rifle to go along with the new cartridge.

From what I've seen of the carbine entries, they don't seem better than the SCAR 17. I don't know what soldiers that fielded it think of it but my buddy has one and I was impressed with it. Supposed to be modular. If they simply must have a 6.8 over 308, neck the 308 down which is essentially what SIG did.
