Old 7.5pt, 90yd shot, experimental Speer 135gr HAM'R BONDED at 2400fps, entrance front shoulder, exit opposite flank, ran 10yds and was down.

#400 hog kill with the 300 HAM'R since Jan 1, I also killed 3 with the .350 Legend for a 403 total YTD. To my knowledge I killed the first hog on May 3rd with the .350 Legend testing HOT-CORE bullets for Speer.

I just joined the forum for the purpose of posting in this thread. I've enjoyed the comments here immensely. I own an 11.3 inch Wilson Combat 300 HAM'R and I absolutely love it. It has become my do-everything gun. The combination of increased bullet weight and still high velocities makes it more useful to me than a 5.56/.223, but I still get it in a light weight AR and with a relatively light recoil. Incredible!

Bill, I have a request. I don't reload, but I would love to buy a 300 HAM'R cartridge designed for AR pistol lengths. One that maximizes velocities for the short barrel. You've already posted on this thread several thoughts about alternative powders that might help this. I would just like to encourage you to bring a product like this to market, folks like me will buy it. I'm already planning to buy more 150 gr ammo based on the data you showed about less velocity loss in short barrels. You wouldn't need to offer all the bullet weights, even just one round optimized for the 11.3 in barrel (maximizing accuracy with weight and velocity) would be very much appreciated.

And I would love to test it and give my feedback!

I primarily use the following bullets for all my hunting unless I'm testing something:

130gr HAM'R HOT-CORE
150gr Hornady SST (#30303)
150gr Speer HAM'R BONDED (new bullet we will have available soon)

Yes we've done quite a bit of work with the Legend, but overall I'm not too impressed...........

Compared to the 300 HAM'R

More recoil
Trajectory isn't as flat
Minimal bullet selection (only the 160gr Fusion and the 170gr Hornady shoot very well)
Isn't anywhere close to being as accurate (only the 160gr Fusion is accurate enough for me)
Low magazine capacity (poor choice for defensive/tactical use)
Doesn't function overly well in the AR15 platform (much better in bolt guns)
Can't make cases from anything commonly available
Primer pockets loosen up very quickly (not good for reloaders)

We've already re-barreled Kimber 84s, Howa mini-actions and Ruger American Ranch rifles with goos success. There is one coming in the future............

Man I love my new barrel from Wilson Combat. So, yesterday I got my jig for my 300 HAM'R. Started cutting my LC 5.56 brass. They came in 1.596- 1.598". I wanted to trim them and at least square up the end of my brass for uniformity, but I could not find my .308 trimmer Pilot for my Cam Lock Trimmer. So I just decided to roll with it. I started with a powder throw of 25.6 of 1680 into 20 cases straight from the Hornady L-n-L Powder measure. Loaded a . 308 V-Max to 2.257 inches and headed to the range. This was just a starting charge weight which chronoed at 2275 FPS. Here is my last 5 shots. I know this is just the beginning, but I think she is going to be a shooter!

Try CFEBLK and load up to 2600fps and your accuracy will improve dramatically.

Thanks Wilson Combat. Yes, I here that is the sweet spot for this cartidge. I plan on getting some CFEBLK as well as more bullets tomorrow. I just happen to have 4 lbs of 1680 from when I had my 40WT, so that's what I used. I figure by the time I have my cases trimmed in uniform and get the other powder, my accuracy will improve for sure. Going to also be doing loading development for the 125gr Sierras. I have a few late season doe tags I'd like to fill with the HAM'R 😁!

I appreciated the candid personal experience with your 350 legend trials. Thank you. For some reason, I was thinking that the legend may be a good M1 carbine replacement possibility. Maybe as mentioned maybe a TC or BFR handgun round or similar.

I am still working on the two 300 hamr builds, but this 300 hamr round just makes sense to me and what I expect it to do.

Ok, I went and bought some CFEBLK and 125gn Sierra Pro-Hunters. Friday, Started at 26gn and worked my way up to 27.5gn. I liked my results of 27.2, so I loaded up 20 @ 27.2 and went out this morning. I'm hearing the sweet spot is around 2600 FPS. I shot just 2 groups and both are "minute of deer", I was just hoping for a little better results. On Wilson Combats website, it states the the temperature was 90-100*. I'm in Nebraska and this morning when I chronographed my leads, it was 18* feel like 8*. My results: Ave 2331 FPS, ES 40, SD 17. I was .5 away from maximum
charge weight. So my questions are, could my low velocities be because of the temperatures here? How much velocity am I giving up because of said difference? If I did nothing more than wait for warmer temperatures, will my groups tighten up? Am I wasting resources by doing load development in such cold temperatures? Shat are your thoughts?

What powder lot are you using?

What power scope are you using?

What's your barrel length?

I'm thinking your still below the "sweet" spot with this load. This cartridge shoots the best around 55K PSI. My personal loads with this bullet are 28.2gr of lot #2 or #3.

Rajuy, Believe the man! He knows the 300 Ham'r inside & out. My 300 Ham'r with 18" barrel & Bills recommendations on the loads with the 130 gr bullet will make less than 1 inch consistently if I do my part, I am in East Texas and don't have to deal with your temps (Thank God) so I don't know what those same loads would do there. I have no doubt about Bill and the Wilson team know there stuff. I know that I will get this down to under 1". I was just wondering if the temperature really has that much affect on velocities. Which 130 gr bullets are you referring to? Yes, the temperatures here in Nebraska sucks, well at least in the winter. This is when I miss Central Florida 😁!
