warpaint!! #like

not sure when i'll see my buds hammer again, but i'll look at the deflector. i'm not sure if it even has an adj gas blk. normally i don't care where the empties land as long as it works. only reason i knew where those landed is because i was standing at his 5:00 looking through a spotting scope. was concerned the empties were going to hit me but they all went left of me. so actually they were probably more like 5:30. not sure how that happened.

hope to get some more vid out. until then... here are a few shots...

HAM'R ammo on sale on Wilson Combat's site right now. Just snagged another 200 rounds of HAM'R Hot Core 130.

Have any of you that are reloading for the 300 Ham'r tried small rifle magnum primers? If so, did you see any noticeable difference in accuracy or velocity? Any pressure signs?

Yes, No.

YES, I had a little time on my hands and tried about every primer on the market.
NO, There was no real noticeable difference in load performance.

I tried my test with both 1680 and CFE-BLK powders. One thing I did find was a difference in "fit" with the various primers. I had been using a brand of benchrest primers in my 7.62x40 and thought I was good to go, but in many cases the primers went in too easy and didn't give me that snug fit that I like.

Long story short, Winchester primers worked well as did CCI. I ended up going with the CCI 450 since the cup was a little harder than the 400's and I prefer that with an AR. But I did not see any difference in performance.

We load all of our factory ammo with CCI 450s and have found them to be the best choice.

Question for Wilson Combat:

Would you use your .300 Ham'r barrel (or any of your other barrels for that matter) to build a left hand AR? I have a Stag lefty in 5.56 that I would like to rebarrel.

I went ahead and reduced my CFE/BLK powder loads by .3 grains, and used the CCI 450's. Test fired them this morning and there was a tiny movement to the left in POI, but it was still just one ragged hole for a group of 5 of the 125 Sierra PH's. No pressure signs. And since Mr. Wilson says they use them in their factory loads, I"m comfortable that I'm not wandering into a danger zone. Unfortunately, by chronograph quit working as I was setting up, so I can't tell you if I noticed any velocity difference, but based on what GrayCard experienced, any change does not appear to be significant.

For hunting hogs/deer I like ALL of the following:

Speer 130gr HAM'R HOT-CORE
Speer 150gr BLKGDB
Speer 150gr HAM'R Bonded (a new bullet Speer just made for us, will be available soon)
Hornady 150gr SST, #30303 (latest pressure test data shows that we can push this bullet to 2330fps from a 18" bbl)

Good stuff
Congrats on the 5 pt.
I am not sold on the Gold dots just yet. I have the speer HC130's for this short range application. Maybe the Ham'r hot cores will change that.
A "Quell Titanium" flash hider. Just great.....another item to look at. Thanks

I used my Ham’r to fill the freezer this weekend. Both doe were 130 yards and taken with the 130gr Hotcore ammo. Both ran about 20 yards. This is a very accurate AR upper and does a good job on the deer.
