For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

Interesting, never heard of #3, the guy we bought our first house from had the swedish. Know another guy who has used the 7mm-08 since it was a wildcat and always swore by it.

Don’t understand the snubbing of the 257 Roberts. I think it is underrated, and I would go as far to say it’s about perfect for a deer rifle. They are easy on the shoulder, and knock the snot out of deer. I will agree that ammo isn’t widely available, but I load for everything that I shoot, so that’s not a problem for me. I think the Roberts is a lot more versatile than the .243. I never got the velocity and accuracy out of a .243, that I could with the Roberts.

If cartridges like the 6.5 Swede was all you needed Guys like Roy Westherby would have starved to death
Roy marketed (very successfully) to the crowd that WANTED bigger and faster. He got guns in the hands of all of the celebrities that he could (back when it was "okay" for celebrities to hunt.) He wanted folks to think that Weatherby rifles/chamberings were the best that could be had. It worked, and still works. Nothing wrong with Weatherby calibers... other than burning a bunch of powder and expensive ammo and brass. Do people NEED Corvettes and jacked up F-250s on 24" tires? It's a wonder Chevrolet, Ford, Skyjacker, the wheel and tire companies, etc. haven't starved...

I promise you if you were in front of a big elk or bear you would want something with more umph than a 6.5 Swede
Grizzly? I won't argue that. 400" elk or the biggest black bear? I wouldn't think twice about whether or not I had "enough gun." Have you actually ever used a Swede on game before making these claims? If you have, you would know that it penetrates and kills WAY above its weight class. It's not magic. A long, heavy-for-caliber, high SD bullet launched at modest and above velocities will penetrate better and more reliably than a lightweight screamer. That's fact, not opinion.

6.5 Grendel. I love the caliber - perfect ratio of accuracy, recoil, and stopping power for hunting game in Texas. I wanted a new cartridge that was sub-.30 cal, and I didn't need it to reach out to over 1,000 yards. I hunt in the National Forest so I don't ever see myself taking anything close to 200 yards or more. I did a little research and went with 6.5 Grendel. I hunted one day last week with it with 120 gr Federal Fusion soft points, but didn't see anything. I will swear by .243 for the white tails(small to medium) I've taken, but I want to give this new guy a try. This early in the game, i'm FAR away from hyping or recommending the 6.5 Grendel in any way - the jury is out.
Retired!

FTFY...not sure I've ever seen a jacked up on truck on 24" tires He's talking wheel diameter and you evidently don't pay attention to your surroundings, flat bill and white shades(probably a douche knot under the hat) on the driver and fagsag will be your first clues

Thursday at 12:45 PM #33 Once i learned that i didn't "NEED" to kill something, and that if i did kill something all the fun stopped and work began, i was a much better hunter.

That's why I said I fixed that for him. Glad you don't think I'm observant though

I’m not real impressed with the list. 6.5 x 55 - It’s a great medium game cartridge. But if you don’t handload, get a 6.5 Creedmoor and be done with it. Use it for elk if you want to limit yourself for no reason (or maybe you just like to limit yourself that’s cool I guess). Use it for grizzly/brown bear if you like following up wounded animals that will kill you. (Of course, some of you make perfect shots every time - so I get that doesn’t apply to you guys). 7mm-08 - It’s not underrated. .250-3000 Savage. It died years ago. It ain’t coming back. It’s on nobody’s radar. Factory ammo almost impossible to find. Get over it. .338 Federal - It isn’t a deer cartridge. .257 Roberts - A nostalgia cartridge. There’s other quarter bores that will do much better, so why choose it at all?
I learned long ago you can't reason someone out of something they don't reason themselves into.
