While heading to the woods with a certain rifle or shotgun (yes, some folks still deer hunt with them) on Opening Day is very much a tradition with many of us, I've always been one to take the gun that just seems right for the stand I'll be sitting in that morning. Because I plan to hunt my ground blind with the company of my Little Buddy heater, I'll be taking my Winchester Model 70 Featherweight 25-06 because it's the most flat-shooting rifle I own. In additional to being near the edge of thick bedding area, I'll also have a wide view of pasture where shots can easily exceed my shooting skills.
My backup gun with be my Marlin 336 30-30 which I plan to use later in the day when hunting near a tank/pond that's hidden back in the woods.

I'll be in a blind in southern Live Oak County with my 8 year old son, sporting my 300 WM and his 243 (both rem 700's).

I will be in Roswell NM attending a JROTC drill meet with a bunch of my cadets. Won't get to do any real serious hunting until winter break starts. Not that big of a deal since all I shoot are does for meat. Haven't shot a buck in nearly 20 years. 2 does will feed me and mama for the year.

Nowhere. Two MLD ranches to hunt and I have yet to be in a stand this year. Life gets in the way sometime.

Sitting here And shooting this
Silver spurs and gold tequila keep me hanging on. Pretty girls and old cantinas give me shelter from the storm.

I'll be headed to East Texas with grown son and daughter to hunt with my Dad as opening day tradition. Haven't decided which hunting blind or ladder stand yet which dictates what weapon (rifle, shotgun, bow or cross bow). I'll likely have them all with me for the trip. Been bow hunting West of metro mess a couple times looking for two particular mature bucks from trail cams. I'll be back after them after the Dad visit, toting bow. Just more fun and challenge to me but I have nothing against the rifles either.

New Orleans, LA. The Wife went to Tulane and it's Homecoming/reunion weekend. The only thing I'll be hunting will be my next cold beer.

I'll be in Navarro county. I have not decided on which gun to take. Could be my Savage 12 in 6.5. A long barreled heavy beast in a boyd's at-one. It'll reach way out there if I get a shot at a coyote. Possibly my Remington 788 in .308 that I just picked up. Or, could be a Browning BAR in .270 that I traded for last year. Neither the 788 or the BAR has killed anything by my hand thus far. I just might take all three and give them equal chances.

Coleman County with my father and his buddy. My father and I acquired a piece of property last year. Best decision we've made. We'll be hunting out of an Antler Shed blind on top of a hill that overlooks the property.
Planning on harvesting a doe with a 44 mag pistol (Taurus Raging Bull). Took the pistol hunting with me last year, but when a doe showed up 30 yards away - the open sights covered nearly the whole heart/lung area. I decided not to shoot as I only like to take clean shots... hate the idea of possibly injuring a deer. Mounted a scope after the season ended and hoping to finally harvest one with a pistol.

Depends on which elevated stand I choose, but 7mm-08 or .458 SOCOM.

One of those oaks in the Fort Worth Arboretum.
Really, I plan to hunt public Saturday morning and private Saturday night. The private is east of Italy. The public is west of Italy.
No matter how high a duck flies a hammer still breaks a window.

Montgomery county with a 30-06, 243 or 6.5 creed. 4 rifles to choose from and I am totally undecided. Possibly take the .40 s&w in case something stands 5-10 yearns away and won’t leave.

My new place, waiting on a particular buck that's recently gone on a walkabout (according to trail cam), as a friend pointed out, probably after acorns. Either my Ruger stainless in the rubber canoe paddle .280 Rem, or LH .30-06 Rem shooting 180s. (I don't want him to get away!)
And, per your "panic" thread, it hit me like a lighting bolt driving today...if I want to sit there for a while and not disturb anything, next to the rifle and cartridges, the next most important thing to have is a pee jug! I gotta get on that.
I refuse to haul a Mr. Buddy heater to the blind on opening weekend in Texas. It's just not done. (But I'll probably regret it and feel my age all morning.)

Trinity River NWR - Will probably end up trekking in 2.5 - 3 miles with my Marlin 336 30-30 .... Might hunt from the ground or maybe a climbing tree stand - depends on what I learn during the scouting trip tomorrow... I hear it's heavy brush, so will probably be up in the tree even though I prefer the ground.
