I spine shot a doe with my longbow some years ago and she dropped right under the feeder. I gutted her right there and hauled her back to my ranch house for processing. I came back that evening and hunted the gut pile thinking a yote might come by and another doe showed up. She kicked open the stomach and ate the corn out of it. Must have been the bucks other mistress. X2

I shoot them inside or outside the pen. I shot my buck last year inside the pen. I saw him 5 or 6 times for a total of for a couple minutes total. He would always skirt the feeder pens, stay behind cover and didn’t stick around. He did the same thing the morning I shot him, but his second time passing through he followed a group of younger bucks into the pen. I wasn’t about to let him walk. Shot through an opening I cut in the panel, he jumped out of the pen and ran 15 yards.

Back when I was guiding we avoided it for the hunters as much as possible. The reason? We had several hunters hit the wire on the cow panels and end up with a bad hit or complete miss. I have seen a doe get shot in the pen and a few minutes later the rest came back and looked like they were PO'd because she was laying on corn they wanted to get to.

This would be the best reason not do it if there's a pen. Even barbed wire can cause anything from a bad hit to a complete miss. Most hunters think the odds are so slim that they would hit a wire or panel but murphy's law makes it happen so often.
