Hey Bill have you had a chance to try the socom with heavy bullets In my opinion the heaviest bullet applicable to the cartridge is the Hornady 160gr FTX designed for the .30-30, but even with this bullet I don't think the velocity trade off for the added 10gr over the 150gr is worth it. The cartridge is at it's best with 125-150gr bullet weights.

Has anyone tried the 125 grain Nosler Accubond or Ballistic Tip? Yes, these bullets are too long for proper loading and powder fill, the only bullet Nosler makes that's suitable for the 300 HAM'R is the 150gr Partition

I loaded a few 125 Nosler Ballistic tips with CFEBLK. I got sub-MOA accuracy but I could only get 25.5 grains of powder in the case. This limited velocity to 2380fps. I was thinking of grinding off the tip, as was mentioned earlier in this thread about other bullets, and trying to seat the bullets out further. I did have great success with the 125 grain Sierra PH. 0.65" five shot groups at 100 yards. Super happy with that, but I'd like a bonded core bullet that shoots that accurately. Maybe I'm splitting hairs but hey, it means more shooting. Darn the luck!

Waiting on my WC order to come in for my next build. Purchased your 16" LE profile 300 Hamr barrel along with your OD upper/lower forged set. Should ship anyday now believe their painting the barrel OD for me. Shooting 125gr PHs now but very interested in the 130 Speer HC or 125 TNT. Dont think I could go wrong with either for hogs and deer.

Bill, did you mean to put double asterisks next to the 150 blackout or Speer Gold Dot with the .503 BC? The Blackout bullet, it's a really good compromise between expansion and penetration. Personally I don't believe the .503 BC on the Gold Dot, it's the same bullet as the Fusion (.387 BC) just with the Boron coating.

So will you be offering the blackout version on your website? Not at this time, Speer is making us a 150gr Bonded bullet that we plan to load that performs very similar. This load should be on the web site within 6 weeks

Hey Bill anymore bullet or powder manufacturers jumping on board 300 hamr with bullets or reloading Data like Sierra Hornady and nosler Western Powder has data posted under their 7.0 Update and it's my understanding that Hodgdon is going to add some more load data. Sierra made us a bunch of 125gr SPT PH bullets with a properly located cannelure, but I don't think they are going to sell them to reloaders. In my opinion, with 30 choices we already have a bullet available for any application the cartridge is suitable for. The only bullet I'd like to see added is a shorter nose Hornady 125gr SST. I've buzzed the plastic tips off of the current bullet and shot them for groups and killed several hogs with them and it would make a very good addition. Maybe after SAAMI approval??? Factory ammo mfg by a major ammo company will be available at the first of the year after their product launch at the SHOT show. Sorry, under a NDA and can't tell you who it is.

I went to the range this morning and shot my 300 Ham'r. It was loaded with the Speer RN 130 gr & Bill's recipe of CFE BLK, I was shocked to see dimples in the 3 in. AR 500 or 550 steel gong at 100 yds. I then tried the steel turkey at 225 yds , 2 shots & 2 hits mid body. I'm glad MLD doe season opens Sat morning, Now if it would just cool off!!!!!

Hmmm. There were quite a few internet articles when 300 HAM'R was initially released that spoke of a Black Hills load.

I’ve assembled two 18 inch 300 HAM’R rigs (great things need redundancy) that each provide MOA or better accuracy using handloaded Sierra Pro-Hunter 125gr (@2560 fps) and Speer 130gr Hot-Cor (@2520 fps). I recently ventured into the heavier bullet weights, expecting similar stellar accuracy, focusing on the Speer 150gr Blackout Gold Dots loaded to 2240-2270 fps (24.8 gr CFE BLK weighed, 2.255 OAL, new WC brass, CCI 450, no crimp). Reality defied my expectations – all 5-shot groups with this load, using both rifles, measured (ahem) four-plus inches at 100 yds. Reverting to the 125gr Sierra PH’s and 130gr Hot-Cor’s got me back into sub-one inch 5-shot group sizes – so, at least in my mind, the rifles appear to be exonerated.
Clearly, there is something that I am missing with regard to the Speer 308150BLKGDB projectile in a 300 HAM’R cartridge. Do I need to make it go faster or slower? If there is an answer, I figure I’ll find it here. I bought a bunch of these bullets (with visions of chasing bigger animals), and do not really want to relegate them to a 300 BLK or .308 Winchester when I’ve got the HAM’R.

sorry but that was just too damm funny. 4+ inches!! i'd blame wilson and tell him you need a few boxes of the factory stuff while it's getting sorted out!!! but seriously, that's messed up. surely someone will come along soon with the answer. meanwhile, how bout some hammah kills...

I'm somewhat at a loss here, I've shot a lot of these bullets and they shoot +/- 1" from my guns at 2300fps from a 18". I've never tried ANY load with ANY bullet that has shot over 2.5" since I started this project. My load details are: 150gr Speer BLK GD, 2.255" OAL 25.6gr CFEBLK lot #3 Sig mfg case (largest powder capacity) CCI 450 Obviously the variables are case capacity and charge weight

First, let me say that any accuracy problem that spurs “djones” to post new hog videos is a problem well worth having.
Bill, I really appreciate the feedback and the load data, and want to emphasize that my odd experience in no way diminishes my enthusiasm for this cartridge. I am also glad to know about the Sig brass with larger case capacity, and the amount of CFE BLK needed to move a 150gr bullet to 2300 fps (which might be difficult with the Starline brass).
Here is a little more information that may be relevant: I noticed that the 150gr Gold Dots were a tighter squeeze going into the case than all the others. My calipers corroborated my suspicion across three boxes of those bullets – many were .3090 inches diameter and none were less than .3085 inches. In contrast, all the Pro-Hunter 125gr that I measured were .3080, as were the 130gr Hot-Cors. The 130gr Speer Varmint (hollow points) and the 125gr TNT bullets in my inventory trended toward .3075 inch diameter. I cross checked my measurements using two sets of calipers.
After firing the 150gr Gold Dots for the first time using new WC brass, I noticed that some cases had considerable stretching at the case mouth – almost a scalloped effect. I have never seen this before. I am now wondering if the bullet diameter of .3090 could be the problem. I have no idea if this is significant, but if you think it might be, I will follow-up with Speer.
