Just wrapped up our third day.
Tougher hunting today the wind was blowing and the ranch just had an “off” feel.
Had another couple of close calls with Gemsbok. They are starting to be a frustrating animal. Same thing with Zebra.
Saw a very nice Kudu come in while sitting at a waterhole but couldn’t get a shot.
Morale was low as we had only killed the 1 Nyala so we were looking for something to put on the ground. Was driving along when I spotted a herd of impala. Me and the PH bailed off while the tracker drove off on the truck. We start to stalk and the herd breaks left and a large ram breaks left and starts running down the road. He stopped about 250 yards out and turned broadside and I sent a 180 grain accubond downrange. He went down and this is one of the only animals I’ve ever killed that got a lot bigger as I walked up.
Put him in the salt and went out. Had two busted stalks on waterbuck and one on Kudu.
Tomorrow gonna try against for Gemsbok

Today has started off much better.
We were stalking a herd of Gemsbok right after daylight and we happened upon one standing in the road at about 100 yards. Sticks went up and I settled the crosshairs low on the shoulder and squeezed the trigger. Heard the “whomp” of a solid hit and the Gemsbok hit the ground, then ran across the road, fell and got up again. I gave her another round straight to the shoulder and she was done.
This was a culmination of about a dozen differ stalks on these animals. These have been, along with zebra and Kudu, the toughest animal to get a shot off on. Tuesday evening I had a long range/ split second shot on a big bull that I passed on and he walked across the road never to be seen again.
We have also been having a hard time getting on Kudu. This part of Africa is extremely brushy and it’s very hard to stalk. After countless tries we decided setting up on a waterhole during mid day would be the best strategy for Kudu.
Yesterday we had a large one come in but a tree covered his vital area without offering a shot.
Today, we were in the blind for about an hour and a half when a herd of Kudu moved in, followed by a nice bull. My wife made a excellent shot at 80 yards. The little 7mm-08 and the 140 grain accubond went right in the shoulder. 100 yard dash later and he was done.
A lot of the pressure is off now, with our main target animals being taken. We still lack 1 Nyala and we still want to go after some other stuff in the next 3 days but we really turned it around today.
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

Had a unbelievable day today. Was able to take an animal I have always dreamed of taking Then a few hours later, was able to get this waterbuck after a run in with a herd of Cape buffalo. Africa has been amazing! I’m hanging up my rifle for the rest of the trip while the wife continues to chase Nyala
