Been looking at all kinds for the past couple of weeks and was wanting to see what everyone else has or has shot. I wish the made a springfield trp in 9mm. Im wanting to get a full size one and get rid of some of my glocks and taurus pistols to fund one so what do you guys recommend? This will mainly be for target shooting not carrying. Thanks in advance!

Probably one of the best shooting pistols out there.

Love the P938, not exactly a 1911, but it's pretty close.

Just curious, if a 1911 then why not in 45?

Not knocking 9mm.

I’m the same way, once you go 1911 .45 acp makes the most sense to me

Weight and capacity don’t change much

To each their own and I’m a 1911 fan

Rock Island is half the price-- won't be quite as nice but they are great shooting guns for the price. And if you stay with a single stack the price of mags doesn't kill ya!

I recently bought the Ruger lite weight commander and did not like it although I am a giant fan of the SR1911 45. I then bought the full size Colt and it’s an absolute pleasure to shoot. The trigger on the Ruger is better and when the full size stainless is available I will own one. I still have and shoot my 45s, they will not be going anywhere. The Ruger runs about $850, the Colt a bit higher. If my budget was $1500 I would also look at the Dan Wesson. They’re made by CZ and are some fine weapons for the money. The Colt has a rail and is nice and heavy, feels great in the hand with minimal recoil.

Springfield PI9129LP if you can find one. Paid about $720 for mine and it is great. Would buy a Dan Wesson Model 1909 if I had the $s. Would be less than $1,500 "out the door".

Why a 9 mm over a .45 ACP? For me it became rather clear over the past few years. I shoot almost every day, but I discovered I had been lax in practicing with my own handguns. Then I went out one day and shot both my 9 mm and my .45's. It was easy to see that I could shoot the nines quicker, more under control, and more accurately. I think that if I put more time into my practice I could regain my abilities with the .45's but until then I'll shoot and carry the nines.
Age can sneak up on any of us and it isn't any fun having to admit; "I aint what I used to be."

So what started this was I bought a Rock Island for 350 and have never owned a 1911 or even shot one before. Ive had just about every single caliber of springfield xds glocks taurus berettas and etc and never have I shot anywhere near as good as I did this cheap Rock Island. So like fireman said Im looking for a pistol I can run a bunch of 9mm thru for half the cost of 45.

I shoot Paras. The Hicap is too big for summer carry. The P-12 is Officer's Model size but they are both expensive to feed.

The new gen. ,380 ammo doesn't thrill me, but some of the new 9mm defense ammo is getting good reviews/ write ups So a 8 in a 1911 frame might be pretty good.

Sig has some 1911 9s, but my experience with Sig 1911 in 45 was it has to be kept really well lubed. Might just been that piece but it shouldn't hang up after only a couple IDPA stages.

A few years ago, I bought my wife a Springfield RO in 9mm, I bought it as a range toy, it’s been 100% and is very accurate. It has adjustable sights which did need some tweaking. It runs like a top and the ramped barrel feeds every style of ammo out there. Highly recommend it, about the only difference between it and a trp is the checkered front strap which could be added. They now make them in stainless steel which would be easy to checker and finish with polishing the frame..

Para 16-40 is one of my competition guns.

A little skate tape on the front strap does the same for about 5 cents up

I have a Citadel 1911 in 9mm. It's an accurate pistol and feeds everything. I had aftermarket adjustable sights put on it, and the swinging link broke early on. Had it repaired and have put thousands of rounds through it since.

My 1911 feels like a 9mm when I use my reloads. It feels like a 45 ACP +P with my defense ammo. Best of both worlds.
