8" bbl comparison
300 Blackout Brown box Hornady "Custom" 110gr V-Max 2142fps average Black box Hornady "Black" 110gr V-Max 2127fps average
300 HAM'R WC 110gr Sierra HP 2238fps average WC 125gr Sierra SPT PH 2204fps average
Basically a 100fps gain out of a 8". However this is with 300 HAM'R ammo loaded with CFEBLK when we can only get to 48k PSI before we run out of powder space, I'll bet loads with H110 or SBR SOCOM would run faster out of the short barrels??? H110 will run the pistol gas 8"-11.3" guns but we just don't load any commercial ammo with it since it won't function our 16" -18" guns with mid-gas. So far the Shooters World SBR SOCOM powder is the fastest powder we're tested that will run all the guns like CFEBLK and A1680 does.

He was there with his son. He said you were related to them I believe through marriage but not sure......said his son was there shooting for the first time a custom you built for him as a gift for graduation. Very nice gesture on your part and the personal serial number was cool. Of course the pistol I was drooling over. Well played Bill.

Keep in mind this load has NOT been pressure tested!!! My 125-150gr GO TO loads are still with CFEBLK in all bbl lengths. I will have access to a SAAMI spec pressure bbl in early July at a company that isn't a powder mfg so I'll get to test loads that I've not been able to due to them being loaded with a competitors powder. I tried A5744 with little success. At this point I consider CFEBLK, A1680 and SOCOM the only three suitable powders available to the general public, however I'm gradually learning about powders that only the big ammo companies have access to that look very promising. H110/Win296/Vit110/A11FS burn rate powders won't function the action on our mid/intermediate gas length guns and are only suitable for the pistol gas barrels. I even blew a mid-gas gun up trying to get it to function with A11FS. We just received sample cases from a second supplier and I'm testing now. They have more powder capacity than the Starline mfg cases and so far are testing out well.

While it seems as if everyone is talking short barrels, I'm going the opposite direction. I should be able to get my new 20" version out to my range this weekend. I'm a bit curious on what difference I'll find between the 16", 18" and 20" barrels. If I was going to do it right, I would start with a 20" barrel and then start cutting it back, but sorry guys, I'm not going to screw with any of the barrels!

Finally got the opportunity to break in the 300 Hamr this weekend. very impressed with the performance right out the gate, zeroed an inch low at 50 yards then moved back to the 100 and set up the chronograph to gather some data on the WC Factory loads out of the 18" Bill Wilson Ranch profile barrel I put in my Aero Precision M4E1.
110 grain lehigh controlled chaos: Average velocity of 2682 fps, SOD 6.63, and Extreme spread of 14.85 fps 130 grain Speer Hot-Cor: Average velocity of 2568 fps, SOD 9.11, and Extreme spread of 25.08 fps 135 grain Speer Hot-Cor: Average velocity of 2305 fps, SOD 15.81, and Extreme spread of 33.79 fps
All three groups were just over an inch and all three varieties were within an inch of same point of impact.
First impressions were high from me, I've got the data i need to start rolling my own and I am looking forward to testing the versatility of this round.

I knew I should've bought one when Bill was generous enough to offer the discount. Live and learn...
Thanks for the data OJ94.

I saw them on sale about two months ago and decided to snatch one, I just finished a Wilson Combat .458 SOCOM build and I didn't buy the kit when it was on sale 6-8 months ago and was kicking myself for having to pay $200 Dollars more for the kit, So i feel your frustration Judd.

Sir, for what it is worth, I've noticed that from rifle to rifle, 1 or 2 tenths of a grain can make a difference in accuracy. The 300 HAM'R is a reloaders dream. All of the factory loads I have tried give good accuracy, but by adjusting slightly you can get a tack driver. If you're trying the CFE-BLK you will also notice a difference from lot to lot. Not a major difference but most of us are picky

Sig Ammunition is AR is just finishing up our first production run of 300 HAM'R cases and they turned out really nice. We'll receive our first shipment late next week.
Also Hodgdon posted 300 HAM'R load data on their web site today. I don't necessarily agree with some of the data except the Sierra 125gr SPT PH loads and none of them are up to the SAAMI max pressure of 57,500PSI (same as the .204 Ruger) for the cartridge if you convert CUP to PSI.

Due to my wife having surgery tomorrow and me going to have to be Mr Nurse for awhile I had my last June hunt this am with 4 HAM'R kills.
YTD totals are: sow 125, boar 123, total 248
Three were shot with the .350 Legend and the other 245 with the 300 HAM'R

Praying your wife has a smooth recovery and for patience as you tend to her. On a personal level I want to thank you for your persistence in developing the .300 Ham'r. I go hog hunting with my father once a year and as he's getting older his .308 and .270 rifles have begun to be too much as he's been more recoil sensitive as of late. He mentioned having read about the .300 Ham'r in a magazine and about the kind of performance it was capable of. I was honestly skeptical. "Not another AR-15 caliber.", I thought. After several hours researching, watching videos by elkbow, and posts from the guys in Team Oink-I was sold. Knowing first hand what a .30 WCF can do to a pig I knew there should be no trouble getting this chambering to perform. As I already had a build started I ordered the 18" Bill Wilson Ranch profile barrel as it seemed to be the best option between weight and performance. I also ordered dies, brass, a gas block and gas tube, a Lancer 300 Blackout magazine and later on a Q-Comp to top it all off. I started load development from the website data. Loading up 30 rounds of 130 grain Speer Hot-Cor ranging from 26.5 to 27.8 grains of CFE BLK. I deviated from the OAL listed and went with 2.195" as that put the base of the bullet right at the neck to shoulder junction. After having sighted in and chronographing we achieved 2470 FPS with the 27.8. Recoil was firm but easily manageable. The Q-Comp really kept the muzzle down during recoil. We were able to recover some of the bullets from the shale backstop and found several had beautifully mushroomed. My goal is to reach the velocity of the factory 130 grain ammo. I've loaded up some at recommended OAL (2.175") and 27.8 grains of powder hoping that seating the bullet further into the case will up pressure and therefore velocity. I also loaded up 28.0 grains of powder at 2.195" to see if that would get me closer to my goal. I'll also be testing a 150 grain Sierra Pro Hunter load. Charge weights will range from 23.8 to 25.0. I'm looking to achieve 2250~. OAL is 2.260" I also find Hodgdon's load data to be very poor. The one thing that I was happy to see was the use of different powders and might have confirmed a suspicion I had about a slower powder for the heavier 150's. We hunt in the freezing cold or the scalding hot so having a powder with temperature stability(though typically a negligible issue) is reassuring. I'm looking forward to seeing more data with other powder and bullet combinations. I've referred to the JBM Bullet Length List( Here ) to make a list of suitable bullets to test. The 300 Savage variant SST doesn't appear to be on the list but from my research or seems to be 1.12" I'm looking to try bullets with a higher BC to carry velocity and energy further out if I need to take a longer shot. 125 grain SST's and Accubond's, 130 grain Hornady Spire Points and TSX boat tail's, and 135 grain FTX's. As I develop more data I'll pass along what I've learned. I don't get to go shooting much so it'll be some time before more information is posted. We're also going to try an adjustable gas block to slow down the bolt carrier group. Deer season will be coming up in November and hog hunting for us will be in January so we'll be able to verify terminal performance. I've also started working to build a 20" .300 Ham'r for myself. Take anything I've posted here so far with caution as some of it is over published charge weights. Anything I can do to keep my dad hunting longer is well worth it for me. There will always be a place for a Ham'r in my safe.
God bless.

Great post, I'll be following your data. The SLY GB worked perfectly to slow down the BCG. Very light felt recoil and no muzzle rise.

I received my 300 Ham'r upper, brass & bullets last Wed. and have finally got powder & primers. Now to put some magic together this morning. I plan to be at the range about noon provided the T-storms have moved out of the area.
BTW, had a brief texting contact with Bill yesterday and wife had just gotten out of surgery and everything went well.

Shadowfast1, I'm glad your enjoying the HAM'R and hunting with your dad, but be careful with your OAL, if your not into the lands your getting awfully close and seriously upping the pressure and risking pulling a bullet when unloading a live round. I settled on the OAL #s based on bullet seating gages made with an actual chamber reamer. I'm having some real good success with the Hornady 125gr SST by taking them to a belt sander and buzzing the polymer tip down flush with the end of the jacket for a flat point, they shoot really well and kill hogs great.

Thank you for the info sir. I'm also glad to hear your wife is doing well.
If I get the time tonight I'll sacrifice a piece of brass and make a gauge to see where the lands are in this rifle. I have noticed all of the data for OAL is less than what most consider max magazine length(2.26"). Was this to optimize a certain weight class of bullet?
God bless.

Throat area is optimized for the following bullets loaded to 2.250", all the ones with a more blunt ogive will have to be loaded shorter. The throat spec was chosen to allow the cartridge to work with the largest variety of bullets commonly available. Lehigh 110gr CC Nosler 110gr Varmageddon Hornady 110gr V-MAX Speer 125gr TNT Federal 150gr Fusion Hornady 150gr SST (#30303) Here are the OAL I've settled on for best accuracy while staying off the lands: 110gr Lehigh CC 2.250" 110gr Hornady SP 2.215" 110gr Hornady V-MAX 2.250" 110gr Nosler Varmageddon 2.250" 110gr Sierra HP 2.155" 125gr Sierra SBT PH 2.235"125gr Speer TNT 2.250" 130gr Speer HP 2.170" 130gr Speer FNHC 2.170"135gr Sierra HP-V 2.230" 150gr Speer FNHC 2.150"150gr Hornady SST (#30303) 2.250"150gr Federal Fusion 2.250" My favorite bullets are in red
