Big 150 celebration this year for the Transcontinental Railroad. UPRR is bringing their 2 big steam engines across Wyoming for the race to Promontory Point. They hit Laramie today and return later in May. It will be really cool to see these big steam engines chugging along the highway. The 844 comes through town every once in a while. The 4014 Big Boy just underwent years of restoration for this event. They make the return later in May for anyone interested in coming up to see them. https://visitlaramie.org/big-boy-tr...q7Nd_PsCt9dn5v4Fc9ZbP4s8h4kFoDHUbIk4OEtw

I was afraid to get close to them when I was a kid.

One of them came through New Braunfels a few years back, we lined the tracks and put pennies on the track like we were kids. Bucket list is to go ride the narrow gauge steam engine in Colorado into the mountains.

Bucket list is to go ride the narrow gauge steam engine in Colorado into the mountains. we used that as our shuttle for the raft trips from silverton, go in the fall for the best experience. aspens up there get to be awesome and weather is usually much better. when you get tickets, get one of the enclosed cars, thank me later (ashes and soot blow in the open car a lot). fall is also better due to vacation season being over, less tourists to deal with and I think the price goes down a little.

If Grandad was still alive, I take him to see it. He was a big fan, and had an H.O. gauge track and town he built. One day I'll probably get his models. I was the only one that was impressed by the big steam trains as he was.

That would be neat. My great grandad worked for T&P his whole career. This railyard is in Laramie. This was two summers ago. Pretty cool watching the trains moving just feet below you.

They are impressive. I love the old engines. They are impressive. My Grandfather took my brother and I on the east Texas train when we were young. I still remember that ride. Would love to do it again. Those old engines have to be "woke up", oiling parts, and until they get to operating temps they creak and grown. Kind of like me in the morning.

There was a program on tv several years ago about trains, it wasn't until sometimes in the 60's there was a diesel eletric engine with as much or more hp than the the Big Boys.
