I saw a new model 7 the other day in .260 Remington....beautiful rifle. 18" barrel, wood stock, great looking gun. first one I had seen chambered in that round in a long time.
That was likely a older gun. Remington did 18.5" barrels on the original Model Sevens and then switched to a 20" many years ago on standard calibers. The Stainless debuted with a 20" I believe. Some even had 22" barrels. It was brand new on the rack This one has open sights on it as well.
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

The older 7 had sights, walnut stock, and 18.5" barrel. The new 7 has 20" barrel, CDL profile stock, and no sights. Its been that way for a pretty good while now.

Cause it’s Wednesday and my brain is fried
Ok in order of relevance.
So 223, 7mag, 25-06, 300 Rum and 280(although I don’t know if that’s still a current chambering)
Don’t leave out the 44 Mag. But yeah, Remington doesn’t like to support their cartridges.

The model seven can still be had in wood with open sights, with 18" barrel. Pretty sure its a laminate

I agree that the 6.5 really has put the 260 out of its misery. It was only moderately popular before the 6.5 CM compared to a lot of the others being discussed (30-30, 308, 270, etc.), but I agree that it seems to have been almost completely obsoleted. Not that it's not useable if you have one, but there will be very few rifles manufactured or bought in that caliber moving forward.

But yeah, Remington doesn’t like to support their cartridges. 7mm-08 Remington seems to be doing pretty well. the 7mm-08 hung around for years without much support from Remington after they brought it out. The first one I got in 1982, I had to drive to the next town to find one box of ammo and they also had one set of dies so I got them so I could shoot it. Remington seems to like to throw new cartridges out there and let them sink or swim. The 7mm-08 has grown a lot in popularity but it took years for it to do so

6.5 PCR. I don't see any advantage to this caliber over 6.5/284, etc.

Magnum bolt face is a negative to some The PRC is in another weight class. You're talking a significant increase in recoil, inability to chamber/mag load in some short-action platforms, reduced magazine capacity, and a few other issues compared to the Creedmoor. Some of the same reasons that the 6.5 and 7 short mags didn't catch. I think it would probably still be successful as Hornady marketed the hell out of the Creedmoor-had they done the same with the PRC first there would still be a lot of buyers, particularly LR guys who like the idea of a factory-backed 6.5 short mag. But the Creedmoor is just smack in the middle of a sweet-spot for everything it offers-low recoil, enough punch up to medium game, excellent ballistics downrange, fits in a short action, quality OTC ammo. Sometimes you catch lightning in a bottle.

Very well articulated sir! I still like PRC better though. Maybe if there was a nickname for Creedmoor, I wouldn’t hate hearing it so dang much, even though it wins all the battles.

Anyone here have a 6.5 rem mag? Wait... another Remington cartridge that nobody has heard of? I tried to find a comprehensive list of Remington cartridges, but nothing popped up in 5 minutes of googling.

Along with the 350 Rem Mag it was one of the first true short mags. It was before its time though and fell flat on its face.
