All that being said, it's not my favorite long range round. It's definitely not my favorite hunting round. But if I had the budget or inclination to own one rifle to do everything, it would be a 6.5 Creedmoor.
Are people really considering the 6.5 creedmoor to be a do-everything caliber? for my way of thinking, if you had only 1 rifle for all hoofed North American Big Game, that caliber range would start at the 7mm Remington mag and run thru the .338's. No way would I want to hunt Moose, Elk or Mountain Goat with a 6.5 creedmoor. So, that means you can't shoot worth a damn.

Another thing me and NP have in common is we have killed a lot of animals and know why bigger calibers exist.
I’m not dogging out the 6.5 I just can’t get behind the theory it’s a do-all caliber.

By do-everything, they're talking about it being the best at hunting, target shooting, PRS-style shooting, etc. Sure, a 7RM will take an elk, but you'd get your arse kicked in PRS with it, and probably wouldn't fare well in any type of normal target shooting because it's punishing to shoot any reasonable number of rounds with. You can buy a 6.5 CM and use that for regular target shooting, long range shooting, PRS, and hunting, and not only is it not poorly suited for any of those, but you don't even have to load your own ammo to do it. It's basically a 270 for hunting and a 308 for long range, with less recoil than both and really good factory ammo for both purposes. Identical to those? No, but close enough that most folks wouldn't ever notice a difference. The 6.5 isn't falling or going anywhere for a long, long time. The 270, 25-06, 30-30, etc. will be gone once the over-40 crowd has stopped hunting. Almost nobody under 40 shoots those calibers at all, or ever will. I feel like the 30-06 has a different following that may hold on a bit longer, but it'll eventually fall by the wayside too. The 6.5 may fall by the wayside too, but it would take something truly revolutionary to replace it. It's such an obscenely well-designed and well-supported cartridge that to improve upon it to the point that people are willing to adopt a new cartridge, it's gonna have to be way better.

I’m not dogging out the 6.5 I just can’t get behind the theory it’s a do-all caliber. All joking aside, what you and NP have in common is an elitist mentality. Y'all assume that everyone hunts elk and moose and triceratops. You're not in reality with the poor folks that can only afford cheap sh!+. Sure, there are better cartridges for Texas hunting. There are much better cartridges for shooting steel at 1200 yards. Y'all tell me what cartridge is better for doing both of those things with a $230 rifle, with ammo that's available in every Academy for less than $25 a box. I'm waiting.
Haha yea I polished that thing for hours.

I was once told that if I couldn’t kill a deer in its tracks at 600 yards with a 243 then I was a terrible shot and prob shouldn’t be hunting.

This thread is down right funny and a little embarrassing when I see grown men resort to grade school insults. (Gerbil's?)
What I've seen with damn near 60 years pulling a trigger is nothing more than repackaging and marketing, pushing and competing with calibers that have been around for many many years. In the process I've seen many calibers dead and buried only to be dug up and re-marketed as this years wonder caliber. One of the first heavily marketed 6.5's was the 264 Win Mag, it to was declared the new wonder caliber but failed miserably. Several directions we could point the finger but the truth is bullet selection and barrel twist killed that cartridge, well that and the 7mm Mag. I'm seeing the same thing happen to the 26 Nosler, while we most certainly have the bullet selection available they limited it with the twist rate removing many fine bullets available for that caliber. With all the above calibers I've mentioned comes that evil word "Recoil" and that seems to be more and more of a concern today than it was 40 to 50 years ago when calibers like the 270 Win were considered light recoiling with many falling into the hands of women and younger kids. Now it seems we've turned to light recoiling calibers with mediocre velocity's and concentrating more on calculating trajectory, something I understand being an old 13B in the Army. What I see us losing is down range performance that the older faster cartridges delivered. With arty the performance was in the projectile velocity didn't matter, you just needed to get it there. With hunting rifles the performance is also in the projectile but you need velocity to get maximum performance, main reason none of my rifles or calibers shoot less than 3500 FPS. Notice I said "hunting" because that's important. Long range target or plate banging falls back into the 13B catagory where the whole idea is to just get it there on target and some of these boys excel at it posting some damn fine long range groups.
OK sorry I wondered but I wanted to address that part first. I don't see the 6.5 Creedmoor going any where it fills a niche between the 243 and the 270, nor do I see the 270 going anywhere or the 30-06, they seem to be the last step before jumping up to what I consider magnum level calibers. I do see calibers such as the 25-06, and most of the WSM calibers (270 WSM being an exception) looking for their final resting place.
Yes! A Weatherby does kill them deader.

I feel like a whole lot of yall just sit there after work drinking beer and posting stuff on the forum all night.
In my mind I could imagine JG and a dozen others spraying beer out of their noses and spinning and jumping up and down like the taxmanian devil, when I posted that about Creedmoor and tikka.
I don't doubt they are great cartridges and rifles. But I doubt very seriously the creedmoor is any better than a half dozen other very common cartridges that have been around for several decades, that reach out and hit just as good as a Creedmoor out to what most would consider long range for hunting.
Addressing the poboy argument- i don't know any po boys that shoot any kind of competition. You pretty much gotta be in the upper middle class and/or single or at least no children, in order to play that game. At least if you have your priorities straight. I am sure many don't.

When folks can’t discuss things intelligently and/or even comprehend what is being said, the personal stuff starts. Why? That’s all they’ve got.
The ignorance on display from guys whose actual hunting experience is less than my daughters is interesting. The fact that it comes packaged in smarta**ery is even more humorous.
I’ve not really ragged on the cartridge in question, but it’s amazing how many attach themselves so closely with a cartridge they can’t even discuss it because anything other than saying “it can do it all better than any other cartridge” is taken like an insult to Mama. But that’s the 6.5 Creedmoor these days.
I learned long ago you can't reason someone out of something they don't reason themselves into.
