Lots of people paint gun stocks. I painted mine, it's pretty easy.

I like it....I have a Remington 710 and been a good gun, ready to change out the gray stock. The dont really make much for the gun, but I thought going to od green would be cool. What kind of prep did you do to it before painting?

It's only Testors model paint, an airbrush, some trial and error, and a six-pack (well, maybe twelve!). I simply cleaned the surfaces with denatured alcohol. Think about some of the techniques you've seen using sponges to drag paint or to create texture. The thing is here I used about 4-5 colors. I thinned the paint more than one normally would for an airbrush. After each application I'd use a paper towel to pull paint back off. Don't rub, dab it off gently but be quick; flat model enamel dries very fast. Do this as soon as it’s just tacky. I then used the edges of a paper towel to apply the lightest and darkest highlights, again using very thin paint. Take a paper towel and pull it from the middle through your fist to make a “brush”. I finished it off with another coat of flat clear enamel. The airbrush really helps; you don't apply too much paint like a regular aerosol can. BTW that's a Weatherby Vanguard black synthetic stock. Here's another photo of my first attempt. After a season looking at this I had to change it. The paint job sucked IMO. That's the beauty of a "beater" rifle...just redo it. The second pic is the Weatherby again. The third is my WASR2. This was my second paint job and I didn't want to tinker with it, I liked it. I even eventually painted the magazines as well.

I'm going to paint my Benneli Nova, then I might even do the AR. Here is another way to do it, with just cans of Krylon, paper plates and sponges:
