Enjoy-

“In the late 1800s, there was a healthy population of Bighorn Sheep in Texas. However, due to disease from domestic sheep, unregulated hunting, and habitat competition, Bighorn Sheep were extinct in Texas by 1960. With a common duty to be a steward of the land and the wildlife that inhabit it, the Texas Bighorn Society, Texas Parks and Wildlife, the Wild Sheep Foundation, and thousands of volunteers went to work to restore wild sheep populations. Due to their efforts, roughly 1500 Bighorn Sheep currently inhabit Texas, marking it as one of the most incredible conservation success stories in America. “

Awesome video! They're beautiful animals and I'm glad they have made a comeback in Texas. Thanks for posting.

Great video Bo Bo. Love the scenery, especially Black Gap aerial.

I think they said there are 25,000 aoudad in Texas.

But there are a lot in the Palo Duro area and the Hill Country.

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

Yeah, but it's 1500 more than we had 50 years ago.

What was not mentioned in the video was the elimination of a sizeable elk herd in the same area where the big horns were transplanted, that was done by TPWD personnel.

Yelper was some studs taken that year on surrounding properties too that where pushed out of SD. I struck out but a fellow mod’s team killed a giant. I’m curious size wise what all they actually killed in the park.

Oklahoma raises 100k plus a year on thier elk draw hunts.

They are in BB State Park too. Coming back from Terlingua one evening (about 18 months ago) around 6 PM we saw a ewe going back up the mountain on the east side of the big hill on 117 about 2 curves down from the crest. Pretty cool critters.

Great video!

We hunted right next to Black Gap WMA, in November. I love that country!!!!

The landowner told us to please shoot some Aoudad if we saw them, and to mark and let him know if we saw a Desert Bighorn. We saw no sheep, but the country will take your breath away, and I was just proud to walk on it, and breath that air. texas

My wife walked in at the end of it and it caught her attention. she said Blk Gap isn’t that one of the ones you grip about never drawing a mule deer tag for? It’s an isolated, middle of no where, abyss of a desert Mountain, why?” then she repeats “ isolated middle of nowhere Mountain, never mind,,,,, you are so weird” and walked off.

I sent my wife pics, in the evening at the house, the only place there was a signal.

She said "damn sure your kind of place."

This was filmed on my family’s ranch 2 years ago. Gotten a tag 11 of the past 12 years. And please don’t question the validity of this video. I have no reason to make this up.

Incredible.

I've taken a week long canoe trip down stretches of the Rio Grande very similar to that. Did the lower canyons from Big Bend then through the state park. Gorgeous country.

Would be a blast to hunt your way down it.

Great story! I wish we had as good of luck with our bighorn sheep program. Whereas our elk herds have been quite successful, our bighorn sheep program has struggled. I believe our sheep are Rocky Mountain Bighorns. Not sure how many we have but disease (I think pneumonia, etc) seems to keep our herd low. They usually auction one permit off per year and have a lottery for one more. The auction brings high dollars but it all goes to the herd, so it is a good thing even for those of us that cannot participate at that level. They're pretty rare but I have seen some of them and taken pictures while out antelope hunting and that alone was worth it to me.
