I have rifles in all sorts of odd strange calibers. My coolest would be a Swedish Model 1867/74 Rolling Block. It started life as 12.17x42R Rim Fire. Then would have been converted to 12.7x44R centerfire for civilian use. I bought it direct from the gentleman that found and imported it during a buying trip to Sweden. I was having trouble with my 12.7x44 reloads from fire formed 348 Win. Then tried trimmed 50 Alaskan cases and still had problems. After doing a chamber cast I found it had been further civilian converted in Sweden to 50-70. I was so happy. I was easily able to make up black powder 50/70 reloads for hunting. The rifle otherwise is still in it's original military configuration complete with identified unit marks. My other one, a Model 1872/89 Swedish Rolling Block is in another odd one 8x58R Danish, but I have not tackled loads for that one and probably never will.

[quote=txtrophy85]I always thought bolt actions chambered in .30-30 were weird. The Remington 788 was chanbered in 30-30. Odd to have such an accurate gun chambered in a not so accurate caliber.[/quote The 30/30 788 was a very accurate rifle . It was always a top performing rifle in factory only bench rest matches . The rear locking lugs of the 788 allowed too much bolt flex with the 308 , the lower pressure 30/30 did not have that problem .

You can always count on Sniper John to be interesting. Yep, I wanna grow up to be him. I guess my most offbeat calibers are are 6.5x54 (6.5 Mannlicher) in a Mannlicher-Schoenauer 1903 carbine and my Rigby 9.3x62. Nothing too wild really.....
I learned long ago you can't reason someone out of something they don't reason themselves into.

Don't know if it would be considered 'weird', but I've got a Newton rifle in 256 Newton.

Don't know if it would be considered 'weird', but I've got a Newton rifle in 256 Newton. Good round, ahead of its time in the selection of powders that were available in the 1913, then that first great war happened and Newtons facilities were used for the War effort. Very similar to, but a bit different than the 6.5-06. From what I understand Newton built some fine rifles back in the day

The 8x58 is a very easy round to load and is a good shooter .

The Newton, whats the trigger situation there? Double set triggers, you pull one then the second trigger is ounces to fire the gun

The Newton trigger, when set, is 6 oz pull on mine. Scary at first, but does make for some decent groups when I hold my mouth right.

I've always thought the WSM cartridges in an 1885 Winchester to be a strange combination.
