I bought myself a Tikka 6.5 CM for Christmas. I love the rifle, probably the most accurate rifle I have ever shot. Problem I have is it is just plain, black stock on a blued rifle. I have been going back and forth about painting the stock/rifle/scope in a camo pattern of some sort. Problem is, I know it won't turn out like I have pictured in my head. I have briefly looked a hydro dipping and I wasn't really seeing what I thought I wanted either. Has anyone done this?? Did you regret it, wish you would have done something different??

You should be able to find a stock painter cheap that is in the know. I personally can’t stand 99% of hand painted rifles and if you plan on keeping it do it right. Or take the money you would spend on painting it , get a fancy better stock

I've done a few, including my CTR.

What's your budget? You could get a replacement stock, or get the barrel cerakoted.

What patterns/colors do you like?

Clean all of it with acetone, and wear latex gloves, during the cleaning and the painting.

Krylon camo paints is where it's at. Plan your layers, give plenty of dry time for each. Finish the job with flat clear coat Krylon and it will look good for years.

If you love the accuracy, why paint it? Spend the money on a custom stock.

He said it's already accurate and paint is a lot cheaper than a custom stock!

Given the question that was posed by the OP, your response is like yourself, irrelevant.

Thanks everyone. I did think of a different stock, but I am not really looking to spend any money on it, just change it up a little. I guess the problem I have is I really don't know what I want. I should probably do some more research before I commit.

Painting is easy and really effective if you're patient. The webbing is done with "Krylon Marbelizing" spray paint. It comes out in ribbons, like silly string. If you decide to do it, hit me up with a PM.

Are you sure that paint will not effect the accuracy?

Before you shoot off your mouth, you might look elsewhere to see what happens if the paint is not uniform in thickness, Goober.

Nothing, nothing happens if the paint is not uniform.

Somebody's announcing their candidacy for the Wall of Shame. laugh

The list is too short for this far into the year anyway.

Before your shoot your foot off, please relinquish ownership of your guns. It’s apparent that you know just enough to be dangerous to everything and everybody around you. That would be a win-win situation for everybody including us.

I would do just what’s described in this thread. I’ve done similar patterns myself and they worked well, I have a CTR in the black stock that will get this treatment as soon as I have time to fool with it.

I’ll try to get the thickness uniform so my rifle will still shoot well...

Boom! Between the other thread and his fiasco statements in this thread BP is spot on.
