I've painted several AR's,and have had a few bolt action rifles / shotguns /and chassis cerakoted. Doing a nice rattle can paint job is a simple process, the main thing about any type of paint job is the prep work. If you don't take the time and effort in prepping all the surfaces correctly, then it will show once the gun has been painted.

Here's a couple that I did using vinyl stencils for the pattern. The first is the 6.8 SPC II that I built a few years ago. It's all done with rattle can,and then I used my air brush to outline the stencils to enhance the camo pattern.

I built this one for a birthday present for my best friend. It's a 223 Wylde chambered AR,and his favorite color is Ford Leadfoot Gray. I did all the base color's and camo with rattle can,and sprayed the automotive paint with a paint gun. I always spay at least 3 coats of matte clear on everything to make the paint jobs more durable, and last for many years of use without getting beat up.

Before you shoot off your mouth, you might look elsewhere to see what happens if the paint is not uniform in thickness, Goober.

Haha, ok DH

I was thinking about using the Krylon coarse stone on that Manners I picked up secondhand, before they told me they'd redo it for free. I sent it to them instead.

I bet the Krylon make it stone/coarse stone paints would give it a great look and help camo it as well as a no slip texture. Add some Krylon marbelizing paint and you'd have a pretty awesome custom look.

Oh and hit the barreled sction up with just some Krylon camo in tan or dark earth. You don't need actual "camo" to blend in, you can have something that looks sharp and won't get you caught by animals. But some of the camo does look sharp itself.

Best thing about Krylon is it is durable enough to hold up awhile with normal use, but also can still be removed without too much trouble. So if you decide to strip it, it won't be too hard.

This is the only one I have painted. It had a very light color stock that I didn't care for
I believe it is Krylon and may be what regularguy is talking about. It has a very sandy feel and I like the way it looks. It has held up well for several years. And it still shoots very well up

That is awesome. I especially like the copperhead look with the leadfoot gray on top. You could turn that inti a side hustle!

Thanks again everyone. I did buy a few things over the weekend to get started, but I felt like it was a tad bit too cool for me to start. I also looked for the marbling paint and all I could find was gold. I think I like that so I am going to try a few more places and see if I can find a different color. I also saw the stone colors and I may experiment with that as well.

I have ordered the Krylon marbelizing spray paint from Amazon. You're in Denton, I may have some left from the last job. If I do, you want it?

My M700. Very easy to do with the krylon and marbleizing paint. Find the hardest clearcoat you can find.

this is a black plastic ADL Walmart gun. In 7mm mag it shoots very well.

Here's some of mine I've done. With a little patience you can make stencils out of blue painter's tape, and dobbing sponges with paint works okay too. Krylon or rustoleum are both g2g
