I simply choose to not care what others think for the most part, especially those with panties waded up into their cracks on an internet forum. I shoot turtles.

Exactly. When I'm on my place I do as I please. Some people take the THF too seriously. Or maybe they just need real friends. Anyway, I too am a turtle shooter.

Last summer Chad was at the zero line of the rifle range, which is to my 2 o'clock from the shop, and 200 yards away. To my 10 o'clock is my pond, 330 yards away. I had the 7mm-08, loaded with 162 A-Maxes, and suppressor set up on the welding table. I hit a turtle so square it launched in the air about 10', like a prairie dog.

I could hear Chad laughing from the shop...

But anyway about an hour into the fun the gun flew apart. After I put it back together and left out the mag tube (no allen keys with me to tighten on sight) I proceeded to shoot the last hour operating as a single shot/straight pull bolt gun single loading rounds into the chamber. Went great. My question is , do I lock tight and super tighten the set screw, or drill a dimple for it to set in? Any thoughts?

Mine looks very different. I'm learning there are a gazillion variations. My barrel is 22", magazine tube extends all the way to the end and holds 18. The tube is not clamped to the barrel by way of the front sight. These things are apparently shooting machines. [Linked Image]

An unethical shot is one you take, that you know you shouldn't.

This one isnt little, pretty sure it's the biggest of the mark II series they made. It's a 10" target model

My gawd, a 708 is too much gun for a turtle and if I wore panties they would now be wadded up.
More seriously, I don't get a 10' jump but sure love seeing em roll a little when hit with the 10/22. Visual confirmation is satisfying. I built a platform for them to sunbathe on and I sneak up and get the biggest one. I get a little flip now and again.

One afternoon of shooting turtles years ago with handguns at an Uncles pond I shot at one that was only about 2.5 inches across and nicked his shell. He skipped like a rock almost to th other bank and started swimming in circles. ent around to that side and finished him off.

FiremansJG the 7mm-08 will do one in for sure, shot an otter in the pond (they are hell on a catfish pond population) on my place years ago with mine and actually mossed went right below it and it flipped about 2 feet out of the water and died from the concussion. Got $80 for its hide, no holes

Comming in at steep enough angle when the bullet went through and into the water the vaccum just scuked the turtle down, for the turtle violin

The first place I had on my own, I rented a small trailer with a pond on the corner of a horse pasture in Elmo. I used to put out a couple of cane poles and stick them in the mud, and check them after work every day. I caught a huge snapper one day and decided to shoot it with my AR15. I had never used a centerfire rifle on anything other than a paper target at that point in my life. Surely a 55 grain FMJ will just zip through, right? Hell no! It splattered all over the place, I had turtle all over me and my brand new rifle.

Haven’t tried a 7-08 on them but a 52 grain Berger HP out of a 22-250 at 3700 FPS is very satisfying.

I guess I'm gonna have to get a new turtle gun. I feel under-gunned with my marlin model 25 .22. Geez
