I finally made it to SWFA the other day. More like a couple weeks ago, actually. It's now my favorite gettin' place I have been Just about everywhere else since I got the 7 mag.. I have visited Cabela's, Bass Pro, and several Academy and Dick's stores, not to mention Wal-Mart and etc. plus a few small gun stores and pawn shops. Nobody carries a decent scope base or pic rail for the old school Savage 110. Yes, you can find standard 2 piece weaver bases. I have some andI don't want them, seems most scopes won't even fit them with most rings. SWFA has a selection of bases that fit, and specifically carry the warne 20 moa rail I wanted. I was able to pick up a steel Warne pic rail and the prices are still competitive with the internet, no shipping when you are already there right? I also snagged some tools and stuff while I was there, torque wrench, etc. I put the scope in some standard 2 piece aluminum Vortex rings. Seemed kind of high at around $60 for some standard 2 piece aluminum rings, but they have the same torque specs as the scope so I went with them. I bore sighted by eye on a stop sign down the road, gotta be over a hundred yards maybe 150. It took about 2 turns vertical adjustment and very little horizontal adjustment at all, happy about that. Anyway, I got to look through some of the SS line at SWFA and I was really impressed by the new ultralight SWFA SS variable. The scopes are all on rubber ducks, as soon as you grab the one with the ultralight it's obviously much lighter. It makes a huge difference. Looks like they are picking up where Leupold left off with that scope. I see it in my future

SWFA is my favorite optics place. They have a Texas Hunting Forum discount code that basically covers the taxes. They do not advertise it anymore but they do still honor it. It saves you 8%
The idea of their ultralight is great but it may have the worst eye relief I’ve ever heard of. Check that out before making your purchase.
$60 for rings is a fair price. I use Talley, TPS, and NF depending on application. $40-100.

I dodn't think they were too costly, compared to Talley. But the Talley rings are steel, and what you get for the price they are a bargain. Thinking, around $30 more than I paid for the aluminum Vortex rings coulda got me a set of steel Talley rings.
But the Vortex rings I got can't be too bad especially considering the torque specs match the scope. That is the main reason I picked them.
About the eye relief- I didn't even think about it looking at the scope. But it was sooo light and pretty good looking glass "to my eye" :x but the most impressive thing to me was the black ring around the sight picture. Is that eye box? Anyway, there almost was none. With a good sight picture, there is a very thin black ring around that and then you see in your peripheral what is around in front of you instead of the eye piece of the scope. I don't know what to call it in the correct terms but thought that was nice.

Eye relief is how far your pupil has to be from the scope. I don’t remember the exact spec but it seems like it’s down around 2”. That’s awful close if the rifle has much recoil.

I am familiar with eye relief and understand what it is. What I don't understand is the term for the distance between the edge of what you see in the glass and your peripheral vision outside of the optic, if that makes sense? Or basically, everything in your vision that is blocked by the optic is glass vs the thick edge of thesight picture on a cheaper scope. What is that called?

Shoot I have no idea. I just glanced back through the “rifle scope school” sticky at the top of the page. It doesn’t appear to be covered there either. Maybe Skylar from SWFA can chime in. He’s pretty sharp as well as others. I usually come here to learn myself.
