"A study in 2003 found that up to 16 million men, half a percent of the world’s male population, were genetic descendants of Genghis Khan."
I always thought this was pretty cool.

Got my results back, 0% German, or Russian......My mother was wrong. That's about the only surprise, the rest was pretty much expected. Typical South Texas hispanic. Lot more junk(1-3%) then I thought.

So the wife, and I did the whole DNA thing for Christmas. I haven't got mine back yet, but my wife got hers back yesterday. Apparently the story her mom told her for years wasn't true. It was long thought that she looked asian. Not to me, but to many. Including random asian people. To me she looked hispanic/native american. If she was wrapped in a woven blanket she looked Navajo, and is she wore a Mongolian hat she look like a little Genghis Khan, so I wondered. Well yesterday, we got her results.....she's 49% Chinese from Taiwan. She's a little confused, and off-kilter today, which is understandable, but i think its pretty cool and interesting. My results will probably be pretty boring "typical hispanic" results for the area. I might be 20% Russian, was thought to be German at one point. Stories passed down for years may not be accurate. We'll see when i get my results back. Curious, any idea where the 49% chinese came from in her family? Her dad wasn't who her mom said. She only saw her alleged dad a couple of times when she was a baby. The good thing is she never had a relationship with him, because this would be really awkward. SA, according to 23andMe, a female will only receive genetic markers from her mother. She will receive traits from both, but the DNA results will only reflect her mother's, grandmother's, greatgrandmother's, etc., DNA markers. Men receive markers from both mother and father (xy chromosome thing). I'm no DNA expert, but I believe you are talking about mitochondrial DNA. Ancestry uses autosomal DNA which traces both mother, and fathers lineages.

Did y'all read the article that said these test were a scam and wildly inaccurate? They are lucky to be able to guess the right continent. LINKIts one of those thing, the more people that get in the more accurate they will be. Your results will change over time as more data comes in. Scam lol, I was really waiting for you to post that. I forgot figured BIL would be first tho. I cant believe you are this buttsore over Brady. Let me guess, you were dating Giselle and Brady stole her from you. Now scientific research is false....Staubach was above average at best.

Oddly there is a large majority of Americans that believe they are part Native American. As soon as I start talking genealogy with folks it is the first thing that comes out, this is not only an Elizabeth Warren thing. I know for a fact that my family has great Indian heritage. My Great, Great Grandfather was Chief Sitting Bull, My Great Grandfather was Chief Standing Chit, my Grandfather was Chief Stinky Wind ......... We really thought my grandmother was half Choctaw out of Oklahoma, turns out she was a Heinz 57 with no red blood at all

When I was 19, I worked for Firestone in N-Side FW. One day, A salesman walked in the office, looks at me and says “What’ya say there . . . 2DogsF-‘n?” Speaking of Native American names.

Some tribes do not have a blood quantum, most do. Many tribes are different on percentages. Some are pretty high and some are very low.
I have a sister in law who has a “card” which states she is 1/32 Cherokee I think. Her husband reminds her frequently that she is 31/32 something else. It makes for a good time.

My Grandma and her brother were on the creek rolls in OK. They were 1/32 which at the time was enough. I'm too far removed.

"Native American or American indian are two different things"
i'd like to hear your explanation on that because what i know, it's nothing more than a preference We all got here the same time, so we are all related to the same group of people that crossed the land bridge. This happen 15k-20k years ago. When the sea levels rose again around 13k years ago. We were cut off from are Asian ancestors. Native Americans populated all of North, Central, and South America. The American Indians are a group of Native Americans that settled the United States. Now, correct me if I'm wrong Choctaw. They were held together by reservations when the Europeans came over. As where other Native Americans from Aztecs, Incas, and Mayans were not. The reservations, as bad as that deal was, in the long run helped them organize their Nations. They didn't just scatter to the wind, and lose heritage. Make sense?

I think this is where people are going wrong. They don't understand the definition of Native American.
