Please dont get it.
Do you really want the government to own one more thing about you?

I won't pretend to be an expert, so I would suggest you watch a YouTube video that explains the chromosomes and all the data points they use to come up with your results. I'll see if I can find a good one for you.

The potential to have that changed at this point in my life only serves to question those I have trusted or distrusted my whole life.

Well eventually your kids or grandkids will do it, so why not it be you? My son for Christmas got me and my wife a kit, we have not sent it in yet. My Dad has always said he is 100% full blooded Portuguese. That would mean I should be 50%? It will be interesting to see what comes back.

That will be their choice. I am happy being ignorant of what someone’s database wants to say about me.
I know my story and if my kids and, at some point, grandkids want to use technology to add to their story... then that is fine.
It will be their story to tell their kids and grandkids. grin

Sent mine off first week of January. Several in my family have worked on our ancestry, some branches are traced back to double digit centuries.
Curious to see the dna results here in a few weeks.

I haven’t done it but a lot of others did and I put the dots together, just because I didn’t want to spend the $.

I thought I knew my heritage for the most part, I always just told people I’m a mutt. I felt blindsided when I was corrected by this stuff. Y’all that know me and have heard me talk, I’m Texan through and through, born and raised and I’ve tried to minimize my accent but it’s a PIA so I’m just going to sound like a hick. I still can’t believe I’m descendant French Yankees dang it, though it’s cool to trace the past.

Cool side note, I think I . . . COULD just be Txhogslayer’s long lost cousin! Don’t know yet, he won’t put any spit on it and mail it in. roflmao roflmao roflmao

Mine originally included some regions that did not match what I had.. The latest update is pretty close to matching what I already knew from my family tree. The 54% I suspect would be more from Northwestern Europe side if I relate it to the number of my known ancestors from that region. Which BTW also overlaps a good part of present day Ireland/Scotland. I have grandfathers that fought in just about every war in the us from the king williams war, french indian, revolutionary war, and on. Lots of other adventure seeking types too like indian fighters, lawmen, long hunter, frontier ranger, regulator, and more. It has been fascinating tracking all their life stories down.

Updates
England, Wales & Northwestern Europe
54%
Ireland & Scotland
33%
Sweden
9%
Germanic Europe
4%

My kid's got me the Ancestory DNA kit for Christmas. Came back telling me what I already knew... half German (Dad) and half Czech(Mom). 54% and 46% respectively. What I DIDN'T expect to uncover was a first cousin I had never known before. Turns out there is a family secret that isn't so secret anymore. Rocked my world a bit because I think this missing cousin is searching for her family, but not sure I want to be the one to put it together for her.

Just from seeing that picture, I would have guessed Asian over Hispanic or native American.

People have left DNA all over since they were born. If the government really wants it they already have it.

I'm adopted. This is one of several reasons I haven't participated as of yet. Supposedly I have two or three older sisters. Not so sure how I feel about someone knocking at my door wanting to catch up and tell me about the old country a half a century later.

You have to specifically choose to share your personal results.

My results debunked family lore than my great grandfather was Native American. It appears to have been started by an aunt who used it to hide the fact that her daughter was adopted. The rest of the family seemed to suspect she was adopted while my uncle was stationed in the Philippines. My uncle later confessed after my aunt passed that both she and her sister were adopted, with her sister being adopted when he was stationed in Germany. Also, turns out, my cousin is not Pilipino but 50% Hispanic.

My results also turned up a first or second cousin who has no known link to my family. I know for a fact that I have an uncle who fathered a child but abandoned both the child and mother. Neither I nor the person who matched my DNA has pursued it any further.
