a lot of hype about this book has popped up on social media and the web and I ordered this book last week.
I will start by saying that this book was self published, is full of misspelled words and the author probably didn't have high marks in English class. It looks like a coloring book when it came in not a legitimate print book.

I have read a lot of biographies about outlaws and criminal activity and I have normally found at least some enduring qualities about the subject person. I could not find any enduring qualities about the author. This guy is a grade A piece of sh**. A real scumbag. As far as showing any remorse, I can't see any of it in the book. This guy is a criminal, committed crimes against the landowner as well as sins against nature in my opinion and is still bragging about it.

I'm throwing this book in the fire, and for anyone else wanting to read it or is curious, pass. I feel dirty for even reading it.

Pretty disgusting when you read the facebook comments. Everyone praising him for being a first class D.....bag. It's a 'cult of personality' thing. No different than our current state of politics IMO. Some people are just ignorant dumbarses.

Self publishing has not improved our society in any way that I can see. "Author, artist, musician" are subjective occupation titles and in this most fortunate country, where a whole bunch of us don't have to worry too terribly much about where our next meal is coming from, there's a ton of wannabes. And, of course, the lamest of them think the government should support "the arts" more so they don't have to actually succeed at anything. But I digress.

Thanks for the warning. I've thrown more than one book in the trash without finishing it.

Full disclosure: my ex is self-published. grin

He was not the first to write a book on poaching trophy whitetail deer in South Texas. IIRC Bob only printed 1000 of these back in the early 90's and written just like Bob would talk to you. It never mentions the word poaching in the book but if you read enough of it you will realize what he is telling stories about.

Poachers should be shot. Trespassing poachers should be shot again.

This guy was just a white trash redneck who thought the world owed him something.

He poached deer and antelope from kingsville to New Mexico. He shot animals just to shoot them. I think some elements of his book are embellished but no two ways about it the guy was scum

I've seen pictures of the guy and a buddy of his that always had their pictures posted in a local archery shop from back in the nineties.
Everyone worshiped the guy like a god because of all the big trophies he killed.
I always had my doubts as to how did the guy manage to kill so many "big" bucks with his bow?
After reading about the guy and his book and pictures of who he hung out with, I now know how, and my suspicions were correct!
That saying, "people judge you by the company you keep" is so true!

Once i learned that i didn't "NEED" to kill something, and that if i did kill something all the fun stopped and work began, i was a much better hunter.

I felt the same way... I literally felt "dirty" after reading it. Made me sick to my stomach really.

Interesting...just pulled out my copy to reread soon. Haven't read it since the late 90's. Will have to revisit with a new perspective. And yes, only 1,000 copies.

After having our ranch poached, I see red when thinking about poachers!

Well I went to school with a kid and his father was Beatty's right hand man. I know the kid was referenced in the book because I saw it on the one of the ad's. This kid killed one of the top bucks in Texas at the time. 23 or 26 points, something like that. They passed that deer head all over town hiding it from Game Wardens. I won't read the book because of what you described is exactly how I would feel. I am also certain there are plenty of stories he failed to mention.

Scan the book into a PDF document and offer it for free on the internet. Let see if he complains about you poaching his royalties.

If the book was worth a damn I might.

Took me about 30 seconds on watching Colorado Buck on TV and I knew he was bad news -

My complaint is this: how the hell do these outdoor TV shows give a bunch of outlaws their own TV shows? Pursuit Channel and the like should be boycotted - they continue to let outlaw hunters have their own shows - there is a long list of them. Anybody remember Spook Spahn on the SpookNation show? Dude was total scum - all kinds of violations but Pursuit Channel kept letting him have a hunting show
