I'm looking at the rifles being used and I'm wondering how many guys actually hunt with the 1 being used for this match. Seems a lot of guys are using the same caliber in the hunting match as the LR match. Is it the same rifle?
If a guy has a heavy, long barrel rifle, and he wants to use it, that's his business. I hunt with every rifle I own, including my 6.5 Creedmoor competition rifle. It's up to the competitors to decide if they want to hoist up a heavy rifle.
Mil/mil FFP give an advantage? Damn right it does, that's why I use them for every rifle task.

2. Any rifle you would hunt with, .223 to .30 caliber. No 7 Rem Mag, No .300 Win Mag, or larger. No limitation on scope. Muzzle Velocity speed limit is 3100 fps. If you are damaging steel, your ammo will be chronographed, and you will be disqualified.
That right there should tell you, it eliminates every rifle I deer hunt with and one of Mrs. B's. The velocity restriction eliminates every load I shoot through all my center-fire rifles, they all shoot over 3500 ft/ps.
I don't know how in the world anyone kills anything with a muzzle velocity below 2700 fps. Somehow I've managed to many times, though.

I'm sure you think your making a very sacastic point but your own rule #2 excludes some very common and fine deer rifle calibers. Maybe it should be changed to the THF Hunters mediocre rifle challange.
It all has to do with damage. I have had some guys shoot at my plates with a 243 going very fast which put holes in my steel targets which are not cheap. It is not about any specific limitations on calibers but those that will damage steel due to speed.

This. Anything faster than about 3100 fps will start to damage steel. And some of the plates are really small and will cause a lot of damage to them. Just down load the ammo some. If you need a reduced load, let me know.

Where are you seeing the rifles?

Too bad you need a crutch of 3500 fps, to hit anything 300 yards and less. 30 other people don't. You were welcome to not sign up, and not show up, and that is what you are doing. As has been mentioned, it is about damage to steel, ripping targets off hangers, and causing damage that will shut down the match.
I assure you we have this under control.

I actually understand the confusion, many shoots have two classes shooting the same range. One for unmodified hunting rifles, and one for modified rifles.
This is a rifle shoot with simulated hunting positions/scenarios. If I’m understanding what I’ve got myself into.
Now max speed of 3100 to prevent damage to range is not confusing at all.
