I picked up a Tikka T1X in 17 HMR. It is topped with a Vortex Razor LH scope (3x15). I had to use Burris highs to clear the scope cover.

I just got back from the range. I brought Hornady 17 grain V-Max, CCI 20 grain Gamepoint, and Hornady 20 grain XTP.

The weather was 58 and variable direction wind at 6-7 MPH. I did not clean this rifle before or during. I did not let the barrel cool while shooting the groups. All groups are 5+ rounds.

I used the CCI ammo for this part. I got on paper at 25 yards. Once that was good to go, I went to 100 yards. First shot was 6" high and 1" left. Dialed the adjustment and bullseye. I'd consistently get 1" groups with this ammo.

I then gave the V-Max a go. Just like the CCI ammo, I get a 1" group consistently.

I finally proceeded to the the XTP. With the same weather conditions, it'd do a 0.5" group consistently.

Now that I know that it likes the XTP and I am zeroed, it was time for some fun. I only used the XTP from here on out.

First up was the 300 yard steel target. I only dialed the range and not wind; wanted to see how much deflection there was. Perfect on the vertical but the wind blew the round wide left. I dialed in the wind, and thwack. Fire more shots and five more thwacks.

Next up was a speed firing test. I dialed back to 100 yards and no wind. Loaded the magazine with 10 rounds and put the last 5 rounds next to the rifle. I proceeded to shoot the 10 rounds as fast as I could. Loaded the last 5 in the magazine and fired those as fast as I could. While I did not time myself, the total time should be close to a minute. This fifteen round group was right at 1.25".

I am pretty damn pleased with this setup.

My next steps are:
1) Give her a thorough cleaning.
2) Chronograph it with the XTP. Was pleasantly surprised that it was dead on at 300 yards with what Strelok Pro said to use.
3) See if I can adjust the trigger. No issues with how it currently is but would like to see if I can further tighten up the groups.

I would go buy all of what it like that I could find with the same lot number

This is the second of what is now 3 very positive reviews on this rifle. I’m glad Tikka was slow to release it. If that meant taking the time to get it right.

Any idea if they are going to put out one in .17 WSM?

So far 22lr and 17hmr is it. Why they don’t have a 22mag when they have the HMR is confusing to me.

Adding a .22 mag and a .17 WSM would certainly round out the T1X quite nicely..... 2cents

22 mag and 17 WSM just aren't great sellers these days, IMHO. I'm always a little surprised that they're offered as much as they are.
