I hope this is the correct place to ask this question? So I'm looking at getting a meat grinder next year. Was thinking about substituting some of my dog's ( I have 3 pointers) food with deer meat. Where we hunt (Coryell County TX) we are allow 5 deer a year per person and between the 4 of us that is 20 deer. Now I'm not sure I will need 20 deer but that is the math. My question is this, I have no idea what size of grinder I would need. No bones in meat and all will be grinding into Hamburger Meat for ease. I need a grinder that will process the sinew and large feed tube and preferably all stainless steal with steal gears & be electric. I looked at some #32 sizes & was thinking they would work but not sure on quality or brand. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

#32 is plenty to grind deer.

Personally if your shooting deer for the purpose of feeding your dogs i'd probably try to get you on waste of game, right wrong or in the middle just doesn't sit well with me, but to each their own I suppose.

#32 is huge but would be awsesome. I'd think you would be more than ok with a #12 but bigger is always better especially with grinders. I currently have a #8 Big Bite and its great for about 6 deer a year for me. No problems at all. LEM is great and Cabelas is great but not sure how long that will be with the Bass Pro buy out. Grinder is one thing the higher the cost the better the product IME and when its junk its a PITA.

and that is not wanton waste its being recovered, used and consumed. opinions......... i currently keep scraps that don't go into grind in 1lb zip lock bags and feed those to my pups from time to time.

Waste of Game

Hamburger meat is so much more difficult that the chili meat grind.

Seems like a lot of deer for a personal grinder you buy at the store.

How many acres are you on? We have taken well over 20 deer in a couple days but that is large acreage MLD with a management plan. Most donated to humans. Didn't know shooting deer to feed dogs was legal.

We have about 61 acres in the middle of everybody else. Got more does than you can shake a stick at. No one ever hunts the does so the ratio is out of whack and the land has a hard time supporting them. Not to mention the cattle grazing around. We put down winter oats but they never get to high because graze press. Anyway I can shoot pigs as well since they are plentiful also.

I have a #12 electric grinder that I purchased at Gander Mtn several years ago. It is fast. I spend more time washing it out, after use, that on grinding a deer.

I have a LEM big Bite #12, that’s 3/4 hp and it’s a heckuva machine. BUT, if you’re really going to grind 20 deer I’d go up to the 1hp or even the 1.5 #32.

I cant think of anything Ive read in the regs that make it illegal, either directly or indirectly in the wording. I wouldn't personally do it either, but that is just my opinion and only means something to me. Not judging the OP.

Edited to add,
I have a #12 LEM. It would do the job.
