It was actually a young kitten that I saw running from me as I returned from a morning hunt. It ran towards the barn and hid against the side of the barn and the shed over my well. I looked away for a second to get my camera out of the bag and it was gone. I could not figure out how it got away without me seeing it but it vanished. I checked the A/C unit down to the right of where it hid and then under the shed where I park my truck and trailer to the left. Nothing. So I packed the camera back up and started the Ranger to put it in the barn. I saw the kitten run out from under my truck and then it stopped to hunt bugs in the grass. Did not have time to adjust settings on camera so just took pics with how it was set.

Love them. I've only seen two in my 60 years in the field. One was in a tree near the largest covey of quail for the day. The second was with my daughter on a quail hunt south of Sealy.

I am sure Mom was close buy in the thick underbrush beneath some huge Live Oaks. I think they may have been raised under a shed that is on pier and beam close to where I saw this young one. I would have been between the shed and the kitten when I drove up on it. I have also been catching mice in the barn on glue boards and throwing them out where I first saw this one this morning. So it probably wondered away from watchful eyes to "hunt" on its own.
