Love them. I've only seen two in my 60 years in the field. One was in a tree near the largest covey of quail for the day. The second was with my daughter on a quail hunt south of Sealy.
Quail hunting is like walking into, and out of a beautiful painting all day long. Gene Hill

Great pics! Really odd there was just one at that age and no mom in sight. You are obligated now to adopt.........keep us posted. I am sure Mom was close buy in the thick underbrush beneath some huge Live Oaks. I think they may have been raised under a shed that is on pier and beam close to where I saw this young one. I would have been between the shed and the kitten when I drove up on it. I have also been catching mice in the barn on glue boards and throwing them out where I first saw this one this morning. So it probably wondered away from watchful eyes to "hunt" on its own.
