Wanting to do a west Texas blue quail hunt this. Who should I hunt with? Not looking for an over the top outfitter/lodge with 5 star this and 5 star that. Just a good hard working guide with good dogs and can put us on some birds.
Dogs point blues and they run away, they dont hold ----- when they flush they fly waaaaayyyy far away ---- almost a waste of time hunting them with dogs.

Could not be further from the truth. They will hold just fine if they have cover and are a lot of fun to hunt with good dogs.

I concur
This is the case--if they flush into grass they will want to hold and often will. So, if you can get the covey up around grass, your dogs will have a lot single opportunities
ya i know they like to run, and your better be in shape and willing to walk to hunt them. but that is what kinda draws me to them, plus the country in the alpine/marfa and far west texas area is beautiful.
If you get them scattered good, singles work can be excellent. If you can't get them split up, it can be a lot of exercise and frustration. If I know we are in blue's I try to run wide swinging dogs and let the vacuum cleaner's go for the fun part. Having blue quail is way better than having no quail and I will take anything this year.
