Who has the best fried catfish in Texas? I put my vote in for the Fish Fry in Paris, TX.

Bill's in Waurika, OK. It's right across the river so it's pretty close to Texas.

Hugh's Catfish on the northbound side of Interstate 69 about 1/2 mile north of the overpass in Goodrich is very good.

My second place restaurant for catfish is Sudie's in Pasadena.

Luck favors the prepared mind.

How about Doug's Peach Orchard in Terral, OK. It's only 18 miles from the lease and hear it is awesome. I need to go. Bill's is 45 minutes away.

I would say most restaurant fish is farm raised. To me fish I catch out of the lakes rivers ponds etc. is superior in every way. Especially when you get that mushy excuse for catfish that they bring in from Indonesia or wherever it is, long "P" name.

I have and really enjoyed it. I wouldn't call it the best, but damn good, all you can eat and they have frog legs too.

My house..... fresh Blues and Chanel for Lake Lavon. Simple recipe, dry fish fillets, lightly coat with yellow mustard and dip in plain corn meal then deep fry @ 340. .Remove from deep fryer when fillet just begins to float and lightly salt. Best ever.
A good fish fillet is like a good steak. If the meat is good to begin with it does not need all the spices that some places tend to cook them with at high temps and too long

Don't go out to eat fish due to liking my own better, but a place I have been to over the years closed last week, David Beards in Ore City. The food was always constant from one time to the next and of course loved the hush puppies. End of an era.

I frequent Big Shucks as well. Always get the shrimp and catfish combo with onion rings. It's always good.

Stub Dairy Land is our go to spot on our way from Graham. The menu is huge I've had the mexican food and the catfish both are really good. My buddy had a BBQ Burger Saturday and said it was really good. It's a cheeseburger with sliced brisket on it as well.

It is no good IMO. I never liked their fish either, there is a reason most of us locals don't eat there. I did get talked into eating lunch there a few weeks back, and my sliced sandwich was terrible, tough, fat, and no good. For those that like it, to each their own I guess.

Murn's cafe, catfish Friday, try the onion rings instead of fries.

The plate is all I need, have seen a few rather large individuals hammer the all you can eat.

Catfish O’Harlies in Decatur. Consistently great taste, excellent portions and nice salad bar.

Do they still have Frog Legs there? I never cared for the fish, but liked the frog legs, and my wife says the CFS is really good.

I might point out; many places sell cod as catfish. Farm raised catfish is expensive. If it’s in big ole white chunks or squares, it’s most likely cod or something else. Catfish has a certain taste, not 0 taste. I’ve ask before, and they get mad.

Been there twice both times disappointed in the Fried Catfish, small pieces that were very average at best.

Question for Austinites....Does the Manchaca Volunteer FD still do their catfish fry every Friday? I'm sure it was farm-raised but OMG that was some of the best catfish I've had in my life. If I remember correctly, plates were $7.00. They started selling every Friday at 11am and sold until they ran out, usually about 12:30 or so. Three filets, two hushpuppies, beans, and cole slaw. Sometimes they had desserts for $2.00, either banana pudding or cobbler of some kind. It was to-go only. I'd usually get a few plates for the office and eat mine in the truck while it was still steaming hot.

Te'-Jun restaraunts have on-point catfish, as does the Golinda Store just south of Waco.

Edited to add: Golinda Store on Fridays only.

Frog legs are still on the menu as is the CFS. I’ve never had a bad meal there.
Catfish dinners always seems to be the favorite of the customers that are there when I am.
Their parking lot was packed at 1:00 PM today when I drove by heading south on 287. It was still packed at 4:45PM on my return trip.

Huntmaster I can name 8 catfish places in Dallas area that no longer use catfish but instead Basa or Swai.. They all claim to use catfish.. Yes they not like being called out....

Really? We tried that place after it opened. Never went back. Service and food lousy. Try Mel’s in Boyd. Real catfish.

Consider it a public service and name them.

I think this ended years ago.

Oscar Store East of Temple. Great catfish.

Shame about the Manchaca VFD fry ending. That was some great catfish.

Had a high school reunion at Oscar Store a couple years ago. They had us on a "choose from 3" menu and I didn't see catfish as an option. I'll have to go back and try it.

Clear Springs on HWY 46 outside New Braunfels is always a good choice and the onion rings may be the best

I'm not sure about the best, but it's pretty dang good.

As for Dead Fish Grill on Lake belton.... sick They have a great view, but their food is just ok. I wouldn't recommend that place to anyone, unless all you care about is a sunset view of the lake.

Chuck's steakhouse in temple was one of my favorite catfish places, but shut down about a year back. The Farm House in Mexia isn't too shabby and their onion rings are awesome!

I have found Walmart catfish nuggets. Thaw them good and spread them out flat and you have some nice fillets. I bread them in my yellow cornmeal mix and fry in lard. Dang good!

We like Fox Hollow too. My father in law ate at Possum Hollow a couple weeks back and said it put Fox to shame. I haven't personally been in years, but we are going to try it again next time and see.

Hucks in Dennison is perhaps some of the best carfish I can remember having. Also enjoy Catfish King, which are located in North East Texas.

Another vote for Fox Hollow. They have changed their offerings as they now are "Family Style" with a menu choice of about 6 different choices (including Catfish).

My favorite place for fried catfish is the Duck’s Nest on Lake St John in NE Louisiana. Best non-restaurant is the wife’s youngest brother’s place. Best fried catfish I have ever had. He’s in Arkansas. So...I have no favorite place in Texas. The catfish tastes about the same wherever I go around here. Billy B’s Sale Barn here in Groesbeck would be my local choice.

I highly doubt it, but is the Duck Inn in Lake Dallas still around?? Growing up it seemed like a huge deal to go eat there. It was a whole family affair, grandparents and all. I have no idea if the food was any good, I just remember thinking it was special to go eat there.
