They used to be good years ago, the last two times we stopped there, has been several years, the food was so-so to bad. They used to have the best mountain oyster I have eaten.

Don`t be a Hater. I have been going to Mary`s for almost 30 years. I do not eat their chicken fry steak very often because I am picky about chicken fry steak and I have had a few over the years that were just OK. Me and my wife went a few days ago and I went with the CFS and it was one of the best I had eaten in a long time. I just wish it was like that every time.

Get one of those press tenderizers that punches a lot of little holes thru the meat. It's better than beating it.

schnitzel is a breaded fried pork steak............the jaeger part is the gravy with mushrooms - I love it, but it ain't CFS

Ponder steak house is pretty darn good.

I will cede to your technicality but still choose it over what 90% of restaurants serve.

It should be made with veil not pork if it's authentic.

Twin peaks has a pretty good one and they put the mashed potatoes underneath the steak which I thought was very good.

Horseshoe Hill in the stockyards is pretty good

I’m not sure if it was mentioned, but ranchmans steakhouse in Ponder has a pretty mean CFS. Gravy on top with some hand cut fries will not disappoint

Had a really good one at Teddy Jack’s here in Lubbock a few weeks ago. Two could easily split it and it was very well seasoned with a great ratio of breading to thick, tender steak. Can’t wait to go again.

Had a real good chicken fried elk steak at Steiner Ranch Ranch steak house in Austin a while back.

Maybe I'll get flamed for mentioning a chain. The cotton patch chicken fried steak is pretty darn good. And you dont have to drive half way across Texas to get it. I like the chicken fried bacon there too, i had both two weekends ago and the weekend before that as well. Chicken fried bacon is one if my new favorites.

Last weekend I got chicken fried steak at Joe Willy's in Rockwall which i believe is also a chain but smaller/lesser known. It was pretty good too.

Wow, I was thinking about them, but didn’t think anyone would have any idea where they were. We eat there once every couple of months and always bring home 6 or 8 slices of pie.

I was watching that show on PBS where the guy travels around Texas and they showed some place in Seguin that had one covered in queso. It looked really good on TV. I think the menu item was called the lineman, but I missed the beginning when they named the restaurant

Some of the guys on our lease ran across Buck's in Sweetwater and their CFS have been great so far. They have a 12, 8 and 4 oz option. The 12 is as big as the plate and it is a platter plate not a regular one. I posted about them several weeks ago on here.
