This has been a crazy year. Between work and the rains I haven't been to my lease since August when I set up my camera and filled my feeder. I had to work yesterday so today was the first day I'd been able to go. I slept in because I knew my blind needed some work and was probably full of wasps....not something I wanted to contend with in the dark.

Anyway, I get to my stand at 10:30. Plan was to pull memory card, spray any wasps, make a couple minor repairs and come back after lunch for evening hunt.

I pulled my card and killed the wasps. Sitting there in my blind with one window open looking through camera pictures when a very pretty young 10 point comes cruising out into the wheat field. I watch him a few minutes, make the decision he's too young and another younger smaller deer comes out to join him. Same story. Few minutes later a 3rd buck comes out of the woods. Much taller rack much more mature deer. Grab my rifle to look (didn't even have my binos in the blind...only had rifle for pigs/coyotes). This 3rd deer I see has a lot of mass and double brow tines on both sides. I watch him a while and decide that I can't let him walk with that mass, double brows and his age. Pulled the trigger at 11:15. Shortest deer hunt I've had and since that's the only buck I'll get, pretty much wound up my season.

Very cool buck, well done! Sometimes just not trying so hard really pays off. Just think of all the money you'll save on feed.

My friend's best friend killed the Colorado State record with bow at 1 pm, setting up a tree stand on the river bottom. On his knees on the stand, facing the tree, hears something behind him. Huge buck standing there watching him. He manages to grab his bow, knock an arrow, turn around and shoots. Thing was like 190"

The double brows and the height were my deciding factors to pull the trigger. I knew he was mature, but fairly narrow...15 inches inside. I just couldn’t pass him up. The 10 with him was beautifully symmetric and probably 18 inches wide. Just younger and lot less mass.
