I'll be scouting fields in Haskell and Stamford Friday 8/31, I love the scouting the day before the opener more than anything, dove season foreplay.

Will be in a 27 ac patch of goat weed between 4 ponds. I am guardedly optimistic. Looked at it Friday and if nothing changes it should be good. My son is coming in from college Friday and I'm a little amped up. It's been a long hot summer.....

I got invited to hunt north of Sealy. I normally hunt central Texas or my deer lease in Windthorst, this will be a nice change. Bringing my 7 yr old son and he's excited to be a bird dog if I can knock some down.

Taking the wife and labs for a day trip to Oklahoma on Saturday. If we're back in time may try to shoot a few at the house that evening. Otherwise it'll be the first opener I've not hunted in 17-18 years. Just not that enthused by it this year for some reason. We don't usually start getting a lot of birds until October anyways. Van Zandt County.
