5th generation Texan and we always called pinto beans red beans. I didn't even know what a kidney bean was until I was grown. That was probably one of the first times that I met a yankee.

Pintos have always been pintos. We also ate kidney beans and called them kidneys and/or red beans.

From a Google search. Red Beans are NOT Pinto they are small round beans LIKE a Kidney bean but smaller. LIKE is the key word.

Red beans cooked with ham or ham bone, lots of chili powder, corn bread and cabbage. Might even throw an onion in there.

From a Google search. Red Beans are NOT Pinto they are small round beans LIKE a Kidney bean but smaller. LIKE is the key word. From wiki: The kidney bean is a variety of the common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris). It is named for its visual resemblance in shape and colour to a kidney. Red kidney beans should not be confused with other red beans, such as adzuki beans.
Red kidney beans are used in New Orleans and much of southern Louisiana for the classic Monday Creole dish of red beans and rice.

Cook 4 cups of pinto beans with 1/2 pack of Williams Chili seasoning pack. Add a 1 pound pack of thick sliced bacon that has been chopped up and fried about 5 minutes. Salt to taste. Optional, a couple of 8oz cans of tomato sauce.
