I hate to leave in the heat of the battle. But, the turkeys are calling... this is a Hunting site after all.
Anyway, the round you specified doesn't even have a bullet. It is a safety slug made up of rat shot, it wouldn't penetrate a leather jacket. DISQUALIFIED
Ok, now I've really got to go. Pick it up from here Kelly.
It has 412 ft/lbs at 50 yards, are you sure it is rat shot?

Thank you Gogburn. Im about to ruin Helos victory dance. LMAO!!! It is ratshot! its a Glaser safety slug, its ratshot in a shell. LOL Literally, #12 shot for the Glaser Blues or #6 shot for the Glaser Silvers. It is bad [censored] ammo but wont penetrate much, certainly no car window or a door. I also question the legitimacy of the facts presented regarding the ballistics of said ammo. Your site...NOT a Glaser site, but a gun rag, well known to be "paid off" in exchange for overinflated "facts" and this perticular one contains inaccurate and over inflated numbers for this round. Here is the real ballistics as quoted by the actual ammunition maunfacturer: http://www.dakotaammo.net/products/glaser/glaser.htmPlease refer to the appropriate calibers and energies purported by the actual manufacturer per the original challenge. To put the balistics side by side they look like this: .40 - 115 gr Corbon Glaser Safety - 501 ftlbs .45 - 145 gr Corbon Glaser Safety - 587 ftlbs I still win. LOL Next!

I will look some more, got helicopters coming in right now. I have some glazers, I didn't know that is what they were in that post. They are great for people and animals though. I had never seen that site before, it was just one of the first that came up on my search.

That isn't the manufacturer of Cor-bon. I went to winchesters site, and the highest energy I could find for the .45 acp was 411 ft/lbs, and the highest for the .40 S&W was 500 ft/lbs.

LOL. Yes it is. Go to the customer service tab and call them. Dakota Ammo is the parent company to Cor-bon/Glaser, LLC.

Well than that must be some bad arse round with extreme pressures, because the highest I can find anywhere else is just over 400ft/lbs.

Im not sure about the pressures with this round but the .45 moves at 1350 fps compared to about 1000 fps for most other rounds but the projectile is alot lighter also (145 gr vs 230 gr) so maybe its a similar load and the weight difference makes it that much faster without increasing pressures. And you are dealing with a "frangible" or "prefragmented" round vs a copper jacketed hollow point. Theres alot of variables here. Its an interesting question though.

Well anyone with a .45 would be wise to use that round. It sure is bad, and I don't think any other manufacturer comes anywhere near that ft/lb.

Yeah, they are bad. I keep some for my nightstand mag for home defense and I can suppress the hell out of someoone long enough to change out the mag for a HP mag if I need to go through walls. The only problem with these is they dont penetrate light obstacles very well, like auto glass or car doors. Itll make it through the first layer of door and just pepper the second but not penetrate. On auto glass, it breaks up and doesnt penetrate. For me, I want to be able to go through a car door if I have to, and a .40 or a .45 Gold Dot will do that good enough for me.

I used to shoot and love .40 S&W. I owned ALOT of .40 cal handguns. From transitioning from the 10mm to the .40 S&W they were all I owned and shot for years.
Then for some reason (wild hair maybe) I bought a .45 and I have never looked back.
I don't care about ballistics. I don't care about the number of rounds any 9mm or .40 S&W pistol holds.
I can speak for only myself and my Glock 21. With +2 extenders on 13 round hi-cap mags, no 9mm or .40 S&W in the world makes as big a whole as 16 rounds of 230gr ashtrays all going into one BIG hole.
I like BIG holes....

its kinda like Hoyt vs Mathews, it comes down to personal preference as both have pros and cons but are good choices and for the record I prefer Mathews and .40 cal

Ok guy and gals, put all the "ballistics" stuff aside for a minute. I have worked a whole lot of shootings and here is some real world advise. Pick a gun that "point shoots" the best for you. Studies show that most gun fights take place within 3 to 7 yards and just like most of you, I don't need sights at that range. Like a camera, you just point and shoot. Then get some really good "people stopping" ammo and once you do all that....PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE!!! Just $.02 from your friendly local LEO.
+1
and I have heard it for years... a 9mm doesn't have enough stopping/knock-down/killng power. A double tap to the golden triangle from a 9mm will cancel anyone's future plans. I have seen the results more than once!!! I mean no disrespect to LEOs or anyone else, but if you can't learn to double tap in a hurry you don't need to carry. I know that some folks can get good at double tapping with a .45s and .40s, but they are very much the exception and not the norm. More so on the .45s. Learn to shoot twice quick, fast and in a hurry.
An aside: All (and I mean every single one!) pistol shoot-outs I have witnessed NOT involvng US military have resulted in exactly zero wounded. Prolly about 20 shoot-outs, including two LEOs (not from Texas, I am proud to say). Your Sympathetic nervous system does crazy things.

Ok, I'm back. You guys got me beat on ballistics knowledge so I can play with you. I will say this, for shear penetration the .40 is unbeatable. But for very impressive, final, and graphic results...get yourself a 45! Later boys!

You tell em Grey. I can say this for my fellow LEO's, MOST Texas shootouts end with a "finalized" bad guy. But you MUST double tap and practice Failure drills. (2 chest 1 head). We do it every month.

I swear I've seen some 357 mag jhp's with 600 some odd ft lbs. We could argue about these forever...I have a S&W .40 and a taurus 357 tracker loaded up at the casa. I wouldnt want to try to make it past either one. imo
