I grew up doing it in Florida swamps. Did it long enough to start our own breed of dogs for it. Then when I moved and started working hard for a living I left it behind. I ended up starting and owning a property management company in Wimberley getting ranch owners tax exemptions on their land. Mostly converting ag to wildlife exemptions. I've been blessed with 5000 acres to eradicate. I've used every method except poison. I was happy to try hog dogging again when they got a little out of hand several years ago. I brought in lots of different teams of hogdoggers. Honestly it didn't help one bit. All it did was spread the hogs all over the place. The hogs that stopped to fight got caught but the ones that ran lived. We caught some really impressive boars that way but the long term effect was they got smart to it and ran every time. This is where it got ugly. When they start running instead of fighting we couldn't contain the chases on 5000 acres and it ended up a trespassing issue EVERY single time. I even pissed one LO off so bad I lost rights in his land. I changed guys thinking the dogs were not aggressive enough to stop the pigs. That wasn't it...the hogs just would stop to fight. As I cycled different guys I saw almost none of them cared if they trespassed. Most of the guys were total dirt bags but a few were wolves in sheeps clothing. They seemed so honerable but were not once old Blue their favorite bay dog was bayed up across property lines. They jumped they fences without any remorse. In my many many years of experience it's not at all a way to eradicate pigs. Only educates them. Trapping corral traps and catching whole soundest at once is quite effective. It's not pretty or as fun but much much more effective.

To the OP. I'm sorry, I didn't mean to shoot you down or steal your glory. I was young once and understand how exciting it is. It is a lot of fun. I'm not discounting that. Congrats on the kill.
Just because it's not a respectable and effective way of eradication doesn't mean it's not fun.

You or anyone else...IMHO, this is the most unsportsmanlike way to hunt something. How is it sporting to have something held down for you to walk up to and stick? Go tackle one yourself and knife it, that would be video-worthy. Yup....you don’t “need” a 30 magazine to deer hunt either..... Gotta love others opinions.....could have simply said that it wasn’t your cup of tea and moved on rather than being provocative....but then that wouldn’t now would it.... Thank God we still live in a mostly free country.....

I wish I had 2 minutes of my life back, that video was a bit overly dramatic.
How many property lines were crossed, without consent, in the video?
If dogging hogs is SO effective, why did y'all just get 1 hog? That is the dumbest comment I've seen on THF in awhile (& that's quite an accomplishment). Good hunters with rifles & gear can take out dozens of hogs, without a buncha dogs holding them down or crossing several neighbors ranches.
Next video, how about narration by Morgan Freeman & The Ride of the Valkryries for background music. No property lines were crossed - The fact that you assume is your issue. You are also assuming that was the only hog caught as the full video will be aired on teh Hunt channel mid February. Only 1 dog was holding down the hog, the catch dog, the other hogs are used to locate and bay up the hogs.

..could have simply said that it wasn’t your cup of tea and moved on rather than being provocative... Oh my, are you suggesting we have to be careful how we word our comments? We need to make sure we don't ruffle a feather or make someone feel different? My momma always told me I was special, I wasn't different, no matter what they said! Hillary, is that you, you sneaky ol thing?!

You could be the first hog dogger who didn't cross onto a neighbors property.

Hillary, is that you, you sneaky ol thing?! Quite the contrary....it’s typically the Hillary types like yourself who pass judgement on what or how others do things and usually try to prevent others from doing things you disagree with.... I’ve never stuck a pig like that nor do I ever care to...if that’s your cup of tea knock yourself out.... Lots of people do lots of things I may disagree with....it’s their freedom to do it as long as it doesn’t harm others or others property.... Jes sayin.... Now go forth and be a perfect sportsman....in your opinion anyway....

One time I shot a hog and it was paralyzed but not dying. I stabbed my t with my knife and blood squirted all over my pants, shirt , and some in my face. Never heard such a high pitch loud squeal in my life. It was crazy.

Im guessing I punched through an artery by the heart.

How do you all feel about tying them up instead of stabbing?
We tie ours up and sell to buyers. Money goes to vests, collars, food, and shots.
We have stuck them before. Usually because they are caught in a location that has no easy exit access.
As for the conflict above, to each their own.
As for me personally, it has been the most exciting hunting experience I have ever encountered. We have bit off more than we can chew a couple of times but we learned. The only comparison being dangerous game hunts such as bear, cougar, or African animals.

You'll get a thumbs up from me when you catch it, wrestle it down, then stick it.
I provided my thoughts on the topic and have been quite amused at some of the wild azz replies, very entertaining, but it has run its course.
Ya'll can carry on...

"sticking" hogs is 1 thing. filming it where the whole world can see it is different. I guarantee you that the practice of knifing animals on video has done damage to the cause of hunting.

The same argument can be made of any killing of any animal on video. Still more humane than our food industry. Out of sight, out of mind, right?

I recommend watching the Carnivore episode. The rattlesnake the hog dude stepped on on purpose was way more dangerous than any hog. He was very lucky. They are a different breed of hunter... still a hunter thougb...
