Maybe this isn't a big deal but just curious.

I know most will not believe me as I have no pics for proof but I saw a Jaguarundi 2 days ago around 7:00 PM. I was driving north on Hwy 16 about 10 miles south of Comanche. It ran across the road and I watched it slip under a fence and into some brush after I pulled over. No I didn't hallucinate. I had Lasik eye surgery in March and have 20/13 vision so I know what I saw. Just didn't know they had been spotted that far north before. Anyone see 'em in that area before?

Just saw the last post on this topic. This seems to be old news. Oh well, it was still cool to see one.

I had one of my Turkey hunters spot something that looks like one a couple of years ago here in Breckenridge. He said it was about the size of a Bobcat with a long tail. He said it was a dark color.

I saw one near Breckenridge about a year ago. Didn't say anything about it as I figured no one would believe me. Maybe these are where the black panther stories are coming from. I was probably less than 10 feet from it before it took off. Very cool critter.

i will say i had/have some pics of a black panther, and a cat about the same size and color and body of a mountain lion from a game camera. it was just outside tyler in my in laws back yard.

That is only a few miles from our lease. We have been there for 5 years and never seen any cats at all. I will keep an eye out.There is a high fence ranch across the road from us and the landowner said that they had found some of their breeder bucks dead and it looked like a big cat had done it but you know how that is.

Call TPWD.....they will jump at a chance to see one.....or they may realize it was a house cat.

that is 100% a pic of a bobcat no question. If you know at all what a Jaguarundi looks like you will not confuse it with a house cat they can range in color from a dark redish to black their face is extremely ugly with large round eyes short rounded ears. They also have short legs and a long body with a long thick tail. Also just to add an Ocelot which i have personally seen in south Texas has been spotted up north and they are easy to recognize they are not much larger than a house cat if at all and they have many spots which have spots within spots they are short haired like a house cat and have a very long tail they dont have the long hair on the face and ears like a bobcat. people have seen boths these cats in north Texas and it seems like they are seen more up there than they are in south Texas where they acctually live so i have to doubt very much that people are actually seeing them.

I still think the big cats old timers see here were Ocelots in black phase

I agree.......quite amazing they are studied and researched in South Texas.......rarley seen...... but this Northern Texas version is in everyone's back yard and on every deer lease. Just like that Boone and Crocket ghost deer that no one ever shoots.

Its a bobcat for sure! You can tell by looking at its tail.

Yes, that pic is a definite bobcat-Jaguarondi are very short-legged and low-slung, to the extent that one common nickname is "otter cat".

My wife and I were amazed to see one sitting calmly in the middle of a dirt track on a ranch south of Hebbronville a couple years back. It was in late evening and it allowed our truck to roll quite close before it walked off into the brush. There is no way you could mistake one for any other animal if you get a good look-they don't look at all like a house cat.

Ive also heard stories of "big cats" in this area....a rancher was complaining about goats vanishing.

The truth is that we don't know what's where. Wild animals don't know the boundaries they're supposed to stay in and all of the big cats are mostly nocturnal and shy as far away from humans as possible...especially in Texas where they're likely to be shot on sight at any time of the year.

Several years ago, I saw a mountain lion on my lease in Cross Plains. Even I thought I was seeing things and was a little hesitant to even mention it to the guys in camp. I did, there was a lot of jabbing, and then we all went back out to see if we could find any tracks since I'd seen him cross over a sandy road about a hundred yards from my stand (too quickly for a shot, by-the-way). Sure enough, we found the tracks.

The rancher said that one had been killed within a few miles several years prior, so they knew they were around. Just rarely ever seen. So, do I believe you saw what you think you saw? Absolutely.

after calling and shooting down a coyote..I started walking towards him to recover it...had a "black" bobcat jump across me within 30yds...that had probably been quietly making its way towards my FoxPro...i'd never seen nor heard of anything like that...but we usually gotta see to believe most of the time. Also came across a mountain lion while hog hunting at night...and this is 5min from Rio Grande River...great times and experiences.

About 5 years ago I was doing some work on a place just north of Waco and saw one. I made three sightings within two weeks. I was working with TPWD at the time, and it turned out to be a pretty interesting deal to see one that far up.

Sorry for bumping an old thread but I'm 95% sure I saw one of these Jaguarundis last night at our ranch in Comanche.

I was hog hunting and drove past a rocky bluff when something in the light on my left caught my eye. At first I thought it was the fattest cat I've ever seen and then my second thought was literally "that looks like a baby jaguar.", but I'm pretty sure Texas doesn't have Jaguars. It was about 25 yards away and I tried to get a zoomed in pic through my scope but wasn't able to, so all I got was a crappy zoomed in cell pic. It just sat there for about 5 minutes until I put it in reverse to try and get a look at the back of it, and then it ran off with about a 2-3 foot tail. Once I got back to the house, I googled central Texas cats and found out about the Jaguarundi. I had never even heard of that before, then I googled Jaguarundi Comanche and this thread popped up.

I thought I saw a puddy cat, I did, I did, I did saw a puddy cat. I've seen a jaguarandi and it didn't look like that. You might also want to keep a claimed sighting of a jaguarandi to yourself or at least for a good amount of time, being an endangered species of cat you don't want TPWD shutting your ranch down so they can investigate the sighting.
