Back in 1981 I broke my favorite knife while cleaning a mule deer in Utah, I have kept my eye out for a replacement for almost 4 decades. Last week I was at the Ft Worth gun show and actually found it.......it was in nearly pristine condition! Seeing that nice knives could be had I checked Ebay and found two matching knives in different sizes that are in great shape for being 30-40 years old. Got a little display put together tonight and am pleased with the results.

Those are great knives. You did good. Mine are the green handled ones instead of black. Not sure there's any difference otherwise.

Is it easy to tell the old from the new? They have production code numbers. Poke around here for information. http://www.classicpumaknives.com/?p=169

Have two of these black handled "old" ones I bought two years ago from a coworker whose father had passed on. Paid $100 for both of them and are in very mint condition, think they are early 1980 models, hardly used and were well maintained, no marks on handles or steel. As I remember them, they will sharpen up like a razor, really awesome knives.

Very cool! I have one of the model# 20681 as well. About 14yrs ago an old timer that was a friend of mine, Vietnam Vet, and for whatever reason took me under his wing to significantly help me in my career, gave me his just a few months prior to passing away. I have relished it as an invaluable treasure ever since! Love that collection!

Puma knives are great! I have a Plainsman that I was given to me by my Dad more than 50 years ago. It’s been my go to knife for every big game hunting trip. It’s field dressed over 100 deer, several Elk and 2 bears. I also have a Game Warden which was my Dad’s. Both the Plainsman and Game Warden have walnut grips. The old wooden handle models have a sleeker profile than the newer plastic grips. Both knives are still as solid today as the day they were purchased.

My most prized possession that was my dad's is a 60's Puma stag handled hunting knife. I've got the guns and great hunting pics but the knife is the treasure.
