From what I get out of your hunt seminolewind, you were there for a 2000.00 management hunt. Your guide gives you the green light on a buck, you shoot the deer and now your told it measures more than their management class. That mistake my friend would be on your guide and his inability to score deer in the field. Then they force you to pay up the difference, that is wrong. I have been guiding for a long time and my reputation is my worth, you screw someone over like what your describing your done as a trustworthy honest guide or outfitter. I do understand there are 2 sides to every story, I would like to hear from the other side. Don't be worried about calling someone to the table, that's one reason the forum is here, to keep people honest and make sure hunters don't get taken advantage of.

This is why I haven't booked a hunt yet. I can't afford to be caught up in something like this. I'm not rich by any stretch but I can save for things that I want. If I saved up 2k for a hunt and ended up being stuck for an additional grand+. That just isn't okay.

Name the company. Quit being scared of a lawsuit, if you were done wrong let the chips fall where they may...

Was there any paperwork?

Something like this happens, and it affects every guide and outfitter in a negative way. Kthnx I read your post above and please remember that what happened to Seminolewind is not the way the guides and outfitters on the THF handle themselves.

Who scored the deer and have you had it rescored?

Sounds like you talked more to the guide about the pay, did you contact the owner directly? Have you tried to reach them for a resolution since returning?

Frio county hunts looks like a winner. 2K for under 135, above that it goes up. the 141 class was 3500.....

So, Frio County Hunts what say you? Was this your hunt and your guide that messed this out of state hunter out of 1500 bucks?

This. I would have told them to pound sand, you can take the $2000 or the dead deer. Their mistake, their problem. I can't see how this could even be debatable.

This is why I sell very few cull hunts. And when I do I'm looking over the hunters shoulder when the triggers pulled. If there's a mistake it's on me, not the hunter.

Seminole... if the deer that hit the ground is the one he OK'd to shoot, its on the guide, not you. Any outfitter that doesn't stand behind their guides guidance is in the wrong. And definately have the buck rescored by a 3rd party certified scorer.

To be sure of hitting the target, shoot first and call whatever you hit the target.

I saw that too. Let's see what happens.

It's not how you fall, It's how you get up.

You should have it scored by a certifed scorer. You havw no idea how many deer score 10s of inches higher at the ranch than in the hands of a B&C or TBGA scorer.

Very true...and it's embarrassing to see it happen. I'm glad that the place I help out on doesn't pull that. Then again, it isn't open to the public, it's a company lease that doesn't charge the hunters

As for the money issue...I have to agree with the posts above. If the guide gives the green light, the mistake is on the guide and ranches shoulders, not the hunter.

Was the guide with you pointing out the deer or were you left alone to judge your own deer while he guided other hunters? If the latter, were you supposed to be left alone to judge your own deer? Do you have documentation on what was agreed on and conversation after such as the apology from the guide you mentioned. Contract, copies of emails, texts, voicemail, filmed the hunt? Or is it fully a he said, you said situation? If you have enough documentation, you can always take them to small claims or even protest with your credit card company. To be honest when these situations come up on the forum, we usually don't get the full story when it comes from only one side.

I Feed Indian Corn. The deer love it and all the colors make them stay at the feeder longer.

I would tell them to pound sand. You take my 2 grand and I leave with the buck.

You keep the buck, I keep my money and post my experience so others can avoid the bs

It really does not matter what an "official B&C" scorer scores the deer. They were unethical from the beginning and I don't see anyway of them sending him any of his money back.
I wish he would name the company for two reasons.
1. so none of us get taken by them.
2. so I can hear their side of the story.
