Is it possible that hot temperatures with little or no rain affected the birds? I have always been told that birds in dry conditions and climates get their water from the morning dew -- if there is a morning dew.

On my place in Dickens county 160 acres last year I was flushing quail all over. Must have had about 10 coveys of at least 20 in each. I lost my 2.5 yer old Maggie in July so I am working with a new 5 month old pup.We have 4 feeders with corn and milo and we've been seeing at least 15 to 20 at each feeder daily. Finally focused on quail hunting last week and I walked my but off and couldn't raise a single bird. Rather frustrating and not sure why they were so scarce.

The Texas Parks & Wildlife reported: Heading into 2017, average amounts of late winter and spring rainfall set up sufficient nesting cover, winter forage and enough insects to trigger nesting. A lack of timely rainfall during the summer, however, may have hurt chick survival.
“Portions of South Texas and the Rolling Plains regions were in moderate drought during mid-summer, which may have negatively impacted brood survival,” said Robert Perez, quail program leader with TPWD. “Hunters will likely see more adult bobwhites in the bag compared to more productive years.”
We need good rainfall from Spring to Summer...

Nice! I hunted a day lease down there a few years ago in that type of weather. Also had good dog work and good scenting conditions

Did the place back up to the King Ranch? No. I got my east and west mixed up. It was west of Encino.
