I'm shooting a 300 Win mag and was wondering would you guys shoot the 180 grain Barnes Tripple Shock or 220 grain Nosler Partitions. And where is the best place to shoot nilgai. Shoulder or behind the shoulder?

I used 165 grain Barnes ttsx in the crease behind the shoulder. Guide preferred it with Barnes. He said they get full pass through most of the time with that combo, which leads to a better blood trail

Personally I like partitions better. I would put that 220 in the shoulder and break it down.

shoot the shoulder, there vitals are a little bit further forward than a deer. You also want to break the shoulder so they cant run. Bigger the bullet the better. Those things are tough!

I normally use 220 gr Partitions, but have used 180's with no problems. I prefer a behind the shoulder shot pretty low in the body. Their vitals sit a little lower than you think. Below is one I shot with a 300 Ultra with a hand loaded 180 Gr Partition.

180 grain Barnes TSX - provided your rifle shoots them well. If it shoots the others better, then use them. Good luck!
I learned long ago you can't reason someone out of something they don't reason themselves into.

On my Nilgai I used 180 grain Nosler partions. In my 300 Win Mag. Worked like a charm and got a complete pass thru.

275-grain, flat point cast bullet with a 444 Marlin. Quartering to me at a 125-yards & exited the last rib on opposite side. Went straight down.

Just shot one Thanksgiving morning with a 175gr LRX out of 300WSM. Low behind shoulder pass through, dropped on the spot and flopped into a pond. Luckily not too far in haha. It broke his shoulders down really bad but it was a younger bull. I really like that LRX, gets good expansion and the solid copper stays together for penetration.

front on shot, dead center in the chest, or right at the white patch in the throat. If you lung one of these things, they will run for 17 and a half miles.

Most of the Poachers in India Use .22 Long Rifle Rim fire. So it is all about SHOT PLACEMNT. Chital-Shikari shot one Nilgai in my presence with his 22-250. Did not moved from it's place

I killed a big one using a .300 with a shot where the neck meets the shoulder. The big boy dropped like a rock.
