Check out Weatherby Vanguard in 243. They guarantee 1 MOA and the synthetics look nice. The 243 is a great deer rifle with mild recoil. I got my son one when he was 9 and he is 18 now and it is still his go to rifle when hunting deer.

.243 or 7mm-08. Personally I like the Ruger American in either the standard or Predator version.

For my oldest son I went with the usual .243 as that seemed to be the norm for most of the people I knew and or had talked to. He got his when he was 9 yrs old. My second oldest son was 9 yrs old when he got his first rifle. Since we already had 3 .243s I was looking for something different and a little more versatile for game. 6.5 Creedmoor is the route I took after a recommendation from a coworker. Great decision. Now looking at getting my older son one and dumping his .243.

I started hunting when I was 10. I shot my first deer with a 270 win and full power ammo and it wasn't an issue at all. Also handled a full sized rife just fine.
I wouldn't get him a 223 or 300 blackout or 222 because of recoil, see what the kid can do and get him what will serve him both now and in the future. I would be looking for something in the 6.5 creedmore, 6.5x55, 7mm-08 7mm mauser area

7mm-08 recoil is mild. Can even use reduced recoil ammo for a while and move up. Don’t handicap them because of the recoil bogeyman. I think a lot of folks needlessly talk kids into being scared of recoil by making a big deal about it.
I learned long ago you can't reason someone out of something they don't reason themselves into.

Been through this. from youth models to cut down stocks... I think a 6.8 AR is THE best choice hands down. No recoil, deadly, adjustable to fit as they grow. My middle kid David, when he was 11 (now 13) shot this pig and cull at 200 yards within 5 minutes of each other, first time out hunting with it. He loves HIS gun

Been using a 6.8 for almost 10 years, have 3 of them, they just work. Had numerous people buy them after hunting with me.

Got my grandson a Remington 243, shoots well and he likes it a lot. Would not knock a Savage 243 though.
