I am currently getting trail camera pics of a buck that, if I get him, I plan on doing a shoulder mount. I only have one other shoulder mount and it is looking straight forward. I really like this position as it will fit anywhere in my house. My taxidermist suggest that I have the head turned so it will reveal the antlers more. My only concern is if I do this I am putting limitations on what wall and what direction he will be looking on the wall. Right now I have an ideal place to put a turned head mount but we plan on selling and building a new in a few years. I hate to regret a head turn later on. Any input on this?

I prefer turned poses. The straight forms look to stiff to me but to each his own. If your deer is noticeably better on one side, a turn can show it off better. Look at some of the forms offered and see what you like. Print off pics of a few and show them to your taxidermist. A mount turned a certain way may look better in some places but some of them turn harder than others.

I like both and have both. The turned head is just better in some ways appearance wise.

Maybe look at a pedestal mount. You'll get the turn everyone likes for the body but still have him looking forward.

I think a turn even if slight makes for a better looking mount on almost all animals. If you get a slight turn you can still mount it just about any where in your house.

I prefer a semi-sneak with a turn to show off the deer better

I prefer a slight turn. Nothing extreme.

I like to pick a pose that most closely resembles the way he was when I shot him.

I like a head turned pose. Something different than straight forward mount. It also is nice to use if you get an animal that has something extra to show, that a straight mount might not be as visible on. Here is my Kansas buck from a couple years back with a right turn wall pedestal mount.

I have mine all done as a wall pedestal with a slight turn back to center for the head position. It's perfect for just about any wall space except directly in a corner, perhaps.
Be calm brother, I see you and thank you. Your spirit and body nourish mine. Be calm brother; I see you and thank you.
