It's one of the most powerful rounds in the AR-15 platform. Make sure it has the SPC II (SPC 2) chambering and not the original SPC chambering from Remington.

I have an 11.3" 6.8. Shot 4 hogs with it so far and it seems to work just fine. Plan on hunting with it quite a bit.
Just to make sure that it is done thoroughly, I go both ways.

Still got my 6.8 shorty. 10.5" barrel. My favorite AR so far. Accuracy is about .5-.75" if I do my part.

I had a couple of 6.8 pistols. My favorite had an 8.5" Bison Barrel. Shot a couple of pigs with it and it worked well. My old eyes could hold it to 2" groups at 100 yards with a reddot sight if I really, really did my part. I mostly shot 120gr SSTs thru it but also shot a bunch of 90 and 115gr HPs out of it.
A pair of standard 16" 6.8s with ARP barrels are my goto pig guns.

I haven't really sat down and dialed it in. I got it minute of pig at the ranch range on a shakey rest. Piled 10 rounds in a 2 inch circle at 100 yards.
Just to make sure that it is done thoroughly, I go both ways.

The 6.8 is an excellent choice if you are looking for an SBR to pig hunt with. I would go with the 12.5" AR Performance barrel ( Here). ARP makes the best 6.8 barrels in the business, aside from super pricey match barrels. You will want to jump on it if you decide on this barrel. As of this post, they only have 4 in stock, and they tend to sell out quickly.

yep.. We have 3 6.8s, 2 x 16" and a 11.3" Hornady 120SST is awesome on deer and pigs
FiremanJG, yes, at longer ranges the 308 is definitely better, but the 6.8 is just as effective on putting game in the dirt inside of 300 yards.. And I MUCH prefer my lightweight 6.8s to my 308 AR, and it's one of the lighter ones, Wilson Combat

For ME, I shoot all my pigs at no more than about 120yds. 6.8 or 308 no matter. Now for a while I regretted selling my old Model 100 in 308 for the 6.8 and wished I'd got a bolt 308 instead. Then, and it's only happened a few times, I was able to take multiple hogs from a sounder before they were out of sight. Now, I'm pleased with the 6.8

I have had numerous people buy 6.8s after hunting with me and seeing how well they work.. Not a magic caliber, it just works as needed.

Y'all keep your powder dry. I'm not bashing a 6.8. I don't have one, but too many people report great results for me to think they are not working well. No need to defend it, against me. It was just some funnin.

you are just an [censored] A professional [censored]. And really good at stirring it up!!! Nothing but respect for you Man! Anybody with an 800 yard range AND who has the skills to teach others to make hits at that distance is just alright by me! I do feel the same way about 6.8 vs 308 but here in CenTex where I hunt, I've never taken over a 150 yard shot at a pig. With NV on my 6.8, it's a little heavy. Same NV on my 308 and it feels like a brick! Almost reminds me of a BAR I shot 40+ years ago....OK, that was a stretch!

BIL, I've got a 12.5" 6.8 from Blackstone (member here on THF) with an ARP barrel, ARP Superbolt, and a SAKER 7.62. It's sub-MOA with factory ammo all day long. It really likes the 115 gr Fusions, but I've also worked up a 95 gr Barnes load too. https://www.blackstonearms.com/
