A distracted driver changed my family forever. The driver is now a convicted felon but that won't bring my wife back. I applaud this gentleman for getting the word out that this a real problem with real consequences.

Yes, purely preventable! I was a passenger on our road trip this last weekend, and I kept track of the drivers we passed who had their hand in their phone. Many times, before we passed the vehicle, you could tell the car was weaving and was distracted. I'd say 30-40% of the drivers we passed had a phone in their hand. Many of them purely engaged in their phone, and not driving. It is an epidemic! I'm looking forward to Sept 1, but I don't see this solving the issue. People will still text and drive. It's like common sense has gone out the window. I don't get it.

Wonder if there will be a hotline to report erratic driving while on the phone?

I have been the passenger for 13 years, there so many things you see when not driving, that it scares me to get on the road.
