I have a few days before Thanksgiving and some time in mid-December that I could come out with my son. I would like to hunt mule deer and enjoy the challenge of doing it by myself (I've had success on mule deer and antelope in Wyoming and Elk in New Mexico).

This year, my son's college calendar would not allow for any quota hunts that I might normally consider.

What are my options for this kind of hunt in Texas where mule deer are found?

I know there is not much public land, but any help with the public land that is available or a rancher that would let me pay them to access their property would be appreciated by this Georgia boy!

Public hunting for Mule Deer in Texas is close to non-exhistant. And the season is very short. Best bet might be to apply for a draw hunt. There are 6 or 7 I'm aware of. See this link. https://www2.tpwd.state.tx.us/huntwild/h....phtml?OCat=MDG

To be sure of hitting the target, shoot first and call whatever you hit the target.

Wow! Slim chances on those draws.

Could I hunt the Lake Meredith area?

& would it be worth the effort?

Any recommendation for western spot & stalk hunting in another state for that time of year that doesn't require a draw?

Depends on how you look at it.... I guess.

$3 is the cheapest draw in the US.

As with any draw state increase your odds by not being weapon specific hindered.

Your best chance would be to find a self guided hunt, I believe there were a few posted on the outfitters and guides section on this forum that were in New Mexico.
