One of my house pasture deer looks like he got bit. Man I hope he survives.

It might be an abscess from something like a bobwire poke or a thorn. I'm sure he will make it.

That is what it looks like to me. I had one of my Ibex get a big one on his shoulder once. I couldn't catch him. The Vet. told me if I was a good shot to give it a glancing shot with a pellet gun or 22 to let the blood out. I finally caught him and the vet sliced it open and squeezed out about a quart of puss and blood. Had a nice scar after that kind of gave him some character.

Yep that's what the vet said after I sent her the pic. Since I don't "own" the deer I don't think I can do anything. I had one with a similar issue a couple of years ago. It busted and made a NASTY bloody mess of a wound but he survived. We'll see.

Heck, I spend so much time in the brush I have this happen to me with the small stuff that I cannot remove with tweezers. We have all seen the videos from helicopter census of deer crashing through the brush, I actually hate watching them because of this possibility. I've seen it on cattle as well. They don't always bust but resolve themselves internally.

Ebony torns are the worst.

Kind of a tricky place trying to open it up with a 22.

Looks like an abscess to me also. Deer are pretty tough. Most likely he will make it.

A clear conscience is often the sign of a fuzzy memory.

That's what I was thinking when you said that Don. Then I thought about my dart gun and also feel it would be too risky. Pics from last night don't seem worse and he's eating so we'll see.

Could be either. Vet told me if snake bite anywhere but the face animal usually dies.

Yeah this guys lived 3 days after the bite. Typically if a snake kills them with venom it's over by now. He could still die from infection from a snake bite.
