When you shoot a mamma pig? A buddy and I shot a pig this morning and noticed a few piglets trailing behind her. We located the sow and walked around looking for them hoping the hunkered down somewhere. Didn't find them. We sat back down after dragging her back to the feeder hoping they would come looking for momma. After 45 minutes we gave up.

So what happens to them after you shoot mamma? Will the find a seragete? Will they come back for momma? Will they run with the rest of the pack (assuming there was more we only seen her)?

Hopefully they will get snagged up by hungry coyotes

I shot a sow and one of her piglets a few weeks ago in Junction. Went the next day to put a card in the camera by where I shot her and four or five of her piglets were asleep near-by under a cedar. I was about 10 steps from my rifle and they all made a break for it.

Usually, another sow will take them in.

I shot a sow last year with 4 piglets. The piglets came back to the sow three times and I took 3 of them out. The 4th piglet never came back.

They just survive on their own as far as I know. I shot a sow a couple months ago, and a week later saw the same litter while hunting another spot. I knew they were the same litter because one was spotted. They didn't have a sow with them, just a bunch of 20-30lb piglets

Or you could be like on of my old neighbors... he shot a big sow one night and didn't realize she had a herd of couple day old piglets behind her. So he "rescued" them and raised them in the back yard. I bet the neighbors loved that. I didn't mind because he gave me a couple of them when he finally had them slaughtered!

If they are old enough for solid food (10-14 days), then they have the potential to survive on their own. We shot all the sows out of a sounder a couple of years ago and the piglets remained as their own little sounder.
